This! If you can switch from Whole Foods to a different grocery store and buy your books from bookshop.org instead of Amazon, that’s still a big step even if you feel tied to Amazon for other items. If everyone divested 30% that’s more than if a few people divest 100%.

Hi, just a reminder that when you use Libro.fm for your audiobooks, you support independent bookshops vs. large corporations that drive them out of business. We also pay taxes. And so do indie bookshops.

I'm gonna remind people that I feel pretty strongly that if you bought one of my ebooks legitimately, then you own the book and however you secure that ownership is fine by me mashable.com/article/how-...

if you see me at winter institute, i am wearing my Make Bookselling Sustainable shirt. you can own one of your own and all proceeds to BINC! www.bonfire.com/make-booksel...

if you are just beginning to read about this, ON TYRANNY is a short yet terrific primer with historical context and practical action items.

And if you are a published author, please join @aabbri.bsky.social We are over 4000 authors across age groups & genres fighting for the right to write and the right to read. We are in this fight together. Book banners want to silence us. We're not going to let them.

one of my biggest victories this year is becca reading MONSTER OF ELENDHAVEN, which is a book you (yes, you, reading this) should also read. a wonderful little gay whalepunk horror that scratches the same itch for me that the dishonored video game series does. SO good.

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue: 1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance 2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion 3. Don't live post resistance meetings

I've seen an old misunderstanding going around; that libraries don't benefit authors. But they do! A lot! Here's how:

hello!!! try one of these: 📖 WE DESERVE MONUMENTS (intergenerational murder mystery and queer coming-of-age, SO good) 📖 the Once Upon A Con series (fairy tales reimagined as modern romances at a sci-fi convention, v funny) 📖 THESE BROKEN STARS (one of my all-time favorite ya sci-fi romances!!!)

Hey! Here's some good news in the fight for the freedom to read! I think this is also proof of the effectiveness of targeted efforts. Booksellers spoke from their specific expertise & pushed back on a policy that would have done wide ranging harm.

By the way, this is one of the issues where you might be able to make some headway with GOP reps if you live in a rural district. It has always been the heavily red rural districts that stopped them from destroying USPS in the past. Reps know their constituents depend on USPS.

i gotchu! two excellent, short primers are ON TYRANNY by timothy snyder (for historical context and action items against fascism) and MUTUAL AID by dean spade (for how to get involved in communities in ways that don't rely on existing nonprofit or capitalist organizational structures).

I agree with this generally but I also do think it's a good idea to first ask like "what are people doing here that is good and needs help" and spending at least 15 minutes looking into that before starting something from scratch

if you loved bridgerton, and loved especially the changes to season two in the netflix adaptation, i super recommend THE PRINCESS STAKES by amalie howard. absolutely delightful historical romance romp that hits the same exact itch.

🚨 update! 🚨 word on the street (aka from our stellar advocacy team at the ABA) is that after hearing bookseller concerns, entangled will NOT print explicit "mature 16+" labels or age ranges on covers. marketing will instead describe books as "perfect for older teens" or "great for all teens," etc.

Let's celebrate a win! @authorsabb.bsky.social organized a letter writing campaign that kept books on the shelves in a library system in Florida. Read about it here: lithub.com/authors-agai...

in honor of president’s day, i would like a new one.

School play gets canceled for "inappropriate content". In response students write [REDACTED], their own anti-censorship play skewering the school district, sells out performances, and ultimately takes gold at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival. www.kqed.org/arts/1397192...
