What an incredible capture of a monumental moment in HISTORY. This isn't about baseball to us. It's about humanity. A white man with an outstretched hand to a black teammate as he welcomes him home. 4/18/1946, Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, NJ. Jackie Robinson greeted by teammate George Shuba.

Mamie Peanut Johnson reminisces about the day Jackie Robinson broke MLB’s color barrier. #biggerthanbaseball #history

There's not an American in this country free until every one of us is free. Jackie Robinson

Love this photo. Taken 4/15/2023 at Sullivan Field in Grand Rapids, MI. What a beautiful day full of community & joy. Our film closed out the day at a historic theatre downtown. #jackierobinsonday #strongertogether #communityimpact

“A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” Jackie Robinson

So much bigger than baseball. Jackie Robinson was a fantastic athlete, but what he did off the field was his biggest accomplishment. #changeagent #civilrights #resilience

Jackie Robinson signed his contract to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers 78 years ago today. We learned from the Jackie Robinson Foundation that he played an exhibition game at Ebbets Field that afternoon against the Yankees. Jackie played 1st base. #biggerthanbaseball #americanhistory

Paul Robeson was born 4/9/1898. He attended Rutgers. He was the university’s 3rd black student, 1st black football player and 1919 valedictorian. He was Jackie Robinson before Jackie Robinson. He earned 15 varsity letters, was a 2x All-American in football & catcher on the baseball team. #History

Hank Aaron hit HR 715th on 4/8/1974, breaking Babe Ruth's record. Did you know he started his pro career playing SS for the Indianapolis Clowns in the Negro Leagues? #negroleagues #thehammer #americanhistory

Born in this day in 1928. We can use some of Maya Angelou’s wisdom about now. #kindness #respect

57 years ago today America and the world lost a trailblazer. MLK stood up and spoke up when he saw injustice. He was assassinated in Memphis at just 39 yrs old. His teachings and leadership show what is possible and continue to energize the fight for equality and respect. #mlk #america #family

Proud today of @booker.senate.gov representing the people of NJ. It shouldn’t be about right or left, this is about right or wrong. It’s about morals. The best question from Elizabeth Warren is why!! Why do you want to take away social security from our seniors who have paid in their entire life.

Closing out a women’s History Month with one of our favorite Directors talking about making one of our favorite films. Penny Marshall and A League of Their Own. youtu.be/UI72synW7zg?...

A few barrier breakers who deserve the spotlight. #negroleaguebaseball #shedidit #womenshistorymonth

On this date in 1965 the 3rd attempt to march from Selma to Montgomery began. The march to stand up for voting rights was successful. Thousands joined in the 54 mile trek over 5 days protected by the National Guard, Army and FBI.

A little history. #negroleagues

Now is as good a time as any to remind everyone that the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City (@NLBMuseumKC) exists to tell a deeply important American story -- one that is ultimately about triumph. Our history, good and bad, is all we have. Learning it is our duty.

Here's what happens when I click on a link for "Tuskegee Airmen Tribute" on the DOD website.

You can’t erase history. It happened!! #education #america

Charley Pride is known as a legendary country music star. Before his music career he played professional baseball in the Negro Leagues. He was born 3/18/1934. #negroleagues #music

Toni Stone warms up with her teammates. She was the 1st woman to play professionally in the Negro Leagues. The Indianapolis Clowns signed her after Hank Aaron left the Clowns because he was signed by the Braves. #whm #trailblazers #womenshistorymonth

There were a few women who played in the Negro Leagues. Mamie Johnson was the only Pitcher. #womenshistorymonth #biggerthanbaseball #Documementary

James “Cool Papa” Bell is a HOF’er who played in the Negro Leagues due to MLB segregation. He is famous for his speed. They said he was so fast he could flip the light switch and be in bed before it got dark. He passed away 34 years ago today at the age of 87. #negroleagues #homesteadgrays

60 yrs ago today Bloody Sunday happened as 600 peaceful protesters marched from Selma to Montgomery fighting for voter rights. They were met with violence as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge, but didn’t quit. After 2 more attempts they succeeded & the Voters Rights Act was signed that August.

Billie Harden owned the Atlanta Black Crackers with her husband in the late 1930’s. They owned a filling station which enabled them to buy the team and provide transportation. Red Moore was their star 1B. He shared his story in our film. #womenshistorymonth #blackhistory #americanhistory

Minnie Forbes was another Negro Leagues team owner. She owned the Detroit Stars (and also played a little 3rd base). She is the only Negro League team owner alive today. #womenshistorymonth #baseball #femalebusinessleader

Did you know the Negro Leagues had women team owners? Hilda Bolden Shorter was one of them. She also was a physician. Talk about a barrier breaker. #womenshistorymonth #femaleentrepreneur #whm

Minnie Miñoso passed away 10 years ago today. He was warm & welcoming. He invited us to Chicago and took us to the White Sox stadium and shared stories for the film. When we were about to wrap up I asked him if there was anything else he’d like to say. Here’s what he said… #hof #minoso #cuba #humble

Kicking off Women’s History Month with Effa Manley. Owner of the Newark Eagles & civil rights trailblazer. She lobbied against lynching, raised money for Blacks to attend medical school and organized a boycott of Blumsteins dept store fighting for jobs beyond janitorial & elevator operators. #HOF

Black History Month may be officially over but we’re going to keep our BHM profile picture for a bit longer intentionally, because Black History is 365.

Monte Irvin was born 2/25/1919, grew up in NJ & played for the Newark Eagles. He was approached by Branch Rickey to break the color barrier. The timing didn’t work out but Monte went on to a HOF career with the Giants. It was an honor spending time capturing his stories & perspective. #bhm #history

65 years ago today students from Virginia Union University peacefully protested against racism at Thalhimers Dept. Store in Richmond, VA. 34 of the students entered the store and took seats at the Whites only lunch counter. They were arrested. But they changed Richmond. #community #endracism
