The worst politicians talk about 'economic growth' with no nuance as regards sectors, no nod to material and resource use or climate change.

BBC News - Virginia Giuffre's death leaves unanswered questions www.bbc.com/news/article...

UK gov strategy of toadying to Trump- including giving him an unprecented 2nd State Visit - is not working. So now they are changing tack/emphasis. Reeves suggests UK trade with EU more important than US. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I’m not qualified to say whether NHS psychiatry is “worn out with fighting a losing battle to maintain standards.” What I can say from groups like GalGael, is that folk need spaces “hospitable to the soul” where they can hold & be held in the basket of community. www.newstatesman.com/politics/hea...

Trump is a dangerous authoritarian. And because of his actions things in USA and globally are going to get much much worse. The R&A should reject ever having Open at Trump's Turnberry. R &A 'would love' Trump's Turnberry to host Open - www.bbc.com/sport/golf/a...

King and Queen attend Easter Sunday church service, with Prince Andrew. This dodgy waster should be a ostracised. The UK head of State should have nothing publicly to do with him. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Trump is looking to dismantle democracy- causing misery and fear for people across USA. He seeks a world of instability- ripe for plutocratic gain. However, UK government toady to him, and the King gives him unprecedented State Visit! UK Government/King deserve scorn and will increasingly be ashamed

Another UK royal scandal. They just keep coming. Buckingham Palace will ignore. King will avoid. Parliament will do nothing. No accountability and of course nothing will change www.theguardian.com/law/2025/apr...

Deary me! And UK King has just been on a 'successful' state visit to Italy, and Starmer is pally with Meloni. We head into the abyss. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ce... Italy's Meloni says 'we hope to make the West great again' in Trump meeting - latest - BBC News

Uk government foreign policy is a disgrace. Seems to be driven by economic gain and toadying to USA. Principles aligned to power and wealth, movable values dependent on currying favor, no leadership. Embarrassing.

A centrists approach to addressing poverty is to describe the scale, geography and dimensions of it, then analyse the causes, but then ignore/shy away from policies and action that fundamentally address distribution and patterns of wealth i.e #communitywealthbuilding

Prince andrew should be stripped of all titles, all privileges and receive no public money. He is a national disgrace. www.express.co.uk/news/royal/2...

The revolving door between English think tank personnel and UK government, means english think tank generally look on Uk government favorably and gives them benefit of doubt.

Most centrist/left English think tanks give UK government an easy time. One can assume they are looking at favors and their political careers more than using critique to expose poor policy and thus offer better alternatives.

Yes. But public ownership of British steel must be much more than a 'goal'. It is the immediate imperative. Sadly, it is neither a goal or an immediate action by UK government. It appears increasingly ideologically opposed to public ownership.

UK government uses national 'strategic importance' to justify intervening and spending £(i.e British Steel). But 'strategic importance' doesn't include Grangemouth, Port talbot, local public services, winter fuel payments, etc. As it stands the government looks unstrategic and scattergun.

There is no greater democratic prize than economic democracy. To seek a better democracy need to look at who controls our economy.

British Steel demonstrates poor UK Government Strategy. Only total failure prompted a belated reactive state response. They talk about 'strategic important' industry. But they had no strategic plan on entering government and didnt develop one!

Ex Tory MP and aide to Sunak - Craig Williams among 15 charged with betting offences. No surprise. Some people enter politics for their own ego/ financial gain. And political party candidate selection turns a blind eye/doesn't root them out. www.bbc.com/news/article...

#Communitywealthbuilding is so important to our economic future, as it practically plays into new patterns of wealth and ownership. We aint going to address climate crisis, poverty and inequality unless we take more active control and create economy that genuinely works for people and planet.

Great piece. But little hope that Starmer will heed and tax wealth. UK Government seems more interested in making friends with plutocrats and appeasing reactionary right.

Excellent piece by @georgemonbiot.bsky.social. We all need to campaign for the UK government to tax wealth in its upcoming spending review & budget. bsky.app/profile/geor...

"When there is foreign involvement in critical infrastructure we need to have a high level of scrutiny" James Murray #r4today #BritishSteel So why do we have water owned by Malaysian billionaire? Royal Mail owned by Czech billionaire? Healthcare by US? Energy by France? 💧📮🏥💡

Great essential piece bu @astra.bsky.social @naomiaklein.bsky.social on the horrific times we live in and what we can do. 'The most powerful people in the world are preparing for the end of the world, an end they themselves are frenetically accelerating'.

What is UK government position now on Gaza? It has moments of being noisy, tho saying little and then being totally silent. It doesnt seem to be on top of things. Lightweight?

What!? This would be a disaster. Strategic action for 'strategically important' industry is looking a bit belated and reactive. We have known British Steel has been in trouble for years. Reynolds refuses to say if British Steel furnaces in Scunthorpe can keep running www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Congratulations - good to see a community share offer as part of the funding mix @democraticfinance.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

What has happened with Starmer's 'coalition of the willing' and his US trade deal? I get impression Government just lurches from pressing issue to pressing issue with Starmer press announcements and no strategic substance.

Some pro nationalisation folks are overly positive by UK governments intervention with British Steel. I'm for it. But lets be clear. Uk government's heart isnt in it, they have no plan, they habitually dither and dally, they have no experience and they run on sound bites.

🇨🇳 China has decoupled economic and electricity demand growth from growth in fossil generation by rapidly building out wind and solar power. Fossil power in China is already close to peaking. 🇮🇳 India is now starting to do the same…

40% of the world's dirty money is laundered through the UK and its crown dependencies and overseas territories. Laws passed to create impression but not enforced. 49,521 UK registered companies have not provided details of persons of significant control. Companies not struck off.

Im all for nationalisation of British Steel. However, I sense Uk government is ideologically against it, but feel like there is no alternative- so reluctant. And of course because they have been against it, they will have had no prior plan, no current plan and are probably way out of their depth.

The British steel crisis is a result of bad owners and poor policy/ government planning. British steel was strategically important months ago. UK Gov has had no real plan and tend to waffle. It took an (expected) crisis taken to wire and they still have no plans to nationalise.

Uk government talks of 'strategic importance' of British Steel, but has had no strategy. Always probable that talks with British Steel would collapse as unions have been talking about bad faith for Months/years. So where was plan? And why is government not just going on front and nationalising now?

Uk government finds money for British sreel because it is of 'strategic importance'. So by association port talbot, grangemouth, poor, public services, and cold pensioners are not strategically important. The decisions of Uk government lack logic and they seem to have no strategy.

NEW: As Labour consider nationalising British Steel, the SNP have called for Grangemouth to get the same treatment ⬇️ Both must be seen as sites of 'strategic national importance', Stephen Flynn said Read the full story: www.thenational.scot/news/2507790...

The UK government once again looks scattergun and with no plan. Months of talks with british steel results in last minute hasty legislation on a industry of 'strategic importance. But what about Port talbot and Grangemouth?

Thatcher made a massive error when she privatised British Steel. This error was compounded by Labour's Blair government who supported privatisation. And it is Starmer continues the trend as he has still not ruled private ownership out.

Indeed. Tho I also deplore the revolving door from democratic politics to a peerage in unelected House of Lords. That is part of same UK establishment system of patronage and cronyism?
