Idea for a new Linnea Quigley-style horror workout video: The Abdominal Dr. Phibes.

On my commute today I watched The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) for the first time. Lots of fun, with some creative deaths (the blood draining had me squirming!) and amusing performances. The "comedy" didn't work that well for me, but the horror compensated more than adequately! #horrorsky #filmsky

Hmm. Not great, but some good practical effects and a bit of suspense here and there. A somewhat memorable killer, with no apparent motive (that I could see anyway). Not really for me, but I can see people enjoying it. I'll probably check out the sequel.

Not in the mood for anything challenging or intellectual, so I'm #nowwatching Laid to Rest (2009). I watched this once a long time ago and remember literally nothing about it. Is it bad? It seems bad. #horrorsky

Enough overthinking children's TV shows, back to giallo! #nowwatching Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971). Once again, I've picked an Argento film - let's see how it matches up to his other giallos. #horrorsky

And that's a wrap on the 13th doctor! I really enjoyed The Power of the Doctor - it was nice to see some of the classic doctors return, and this felt the most like Doctor Who of Whittaker's run. I loved seeing Ian return at the end too!

Possibly my new favourite Argento! His work often feels a bit cold, especially his later 80s stuff, but this had a lot more focus on character. I particularly enjoyed Daria Nicolai's performance. Great soundtrack too - one of the best Goblin tunes!

I'm waiting for a couple of new records to arrive, but in the meantime I'm going back to an old favourite. #nowspinning Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division. The best thing the band ever recorded IMO, though they rarely wrote a bad track.

Another Giallo! #nowwatching Dario Argento's Deep Red (1975). I've seen a lot of Argento, but somehow never got round to this one. Everyone seems to love it, so I'm going in with high expectations! #horrorsky

Caught up on a couple of the #doctorwho 2022 special episodes this afternoon. Eve of the Daleks was a pretty good story marred by some odd performances and directing choices. At times it felt very rushed, undercutting the tension in the scenes. 6/10

I really enjoyed this one. There were a few Fulci trademarks (close-up on the eyes, etc.), and the locations in the Italian countryside were beautiful. I thought the red herrings were quite clumsily set up at times though, which seemed contradictory to the nature of the characters.

Another Giallo for this evening! #nowwatching Don't Torture a Duckling (1972). This is one of two Fulci giallo films I've been meaning to watch, and a Blu-ray of it has been sitting on my shelf for a while. Tonight's the night! #horrorsky

This was phenomenal! Excellent cinematography, expertly built tension, and some nasty kills. The scene in the marsh/forest was incredible. The plot had the right level of complexity, with believable red herrings to throw the audience off the scent. Easily one of the best Giallo films I've seen.

Taking another step along my Giallo journey - #nowwatching Torso (1973). Some pretty gruesome kills so far, and a killer who gives off a genuinely malevolent vibe. #horrorsky

Bonkers (in a good way!). I was starting to wonder if the filmmakers were just making up the plot as they went along, but it all dovetailed together nicely at the end. Definitely a story that keeps you on your toes - a brilliant ending too.

#nowwatching Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (1972). I fancied a bit of Giallo, and this one had the most attractive title. Hopefully it was a good choice! I'm sure there are plenty of people on #horrorsky who can scold me and point me towards something better if not.

Three new(ish) #vegan sweets available in Japanese supermarkets! A short review thread: #veganfood #plantbased
