💥The Netherlands' largest pension fund, has sold its shares in Tesla, Meta, and Alphabet (Google). The fund with US $569 billion equivolent in assets is "directing more money to companies and projects that help to improve society and the environment." #Divest www.reuters.com/markets/euro...

Just putting this here in the hopes that people will post it back to me every couple of days 🫠 www.scientificamerican.com/article/feel...

These are definitely not cops or sheriff's deputies

At least 12 universities now have hiring freezes and nearly 30 have cut PhD admissions this year If you hear of other places you can add them to this google doc:

A judge ordered foreign aid to resume. Aid groups say it’s not happening. Instead, more than 200+ groups had their contracts terminated. Food is now rotting near starving people; some aid warehouses left unguarded. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...

"How do regimes manage to impose minority rule on enormous populations? By getting the majority to give up. Don’t do that." Other major point here: we need to be able to accept former Trumpers into the fold, as hard as that will be for everyone involved.

Trying to get the word out to colleagues in SC - still need a leader! I'm going to #standupforscience2025 in DC on March 7 because science helps everyone, regardless of their political views.

Given that I grew up in Chicago and live in New York, I can't tell you how convenient this would be for me. 4 hours to go from downtown NYC to downtown Chicago? I'd see my family so much more! (I know there is no chance of this).

NYC>Chicago is legitimately a great corridor for high-speed rail, if states of NY, PA, OH, IN & IL could unite for it. You could hit: —NYC—20m —Philly—6m —Harrisburg—600k —Pittsburgh—2.4m —Youngstown—400k —Cleveland—2.2m —Toledo—600k —Ft Wayne—500k —South Bend—300k —Chicago—9m On a ~straight route

🚨WE ARE FINALIZING SITES ON MONDAY🚨

Carefully done study clearly shows X and TikTok pushing pro-AfD content to Germans whose own selections of who to follow are neutral. In other words, heavy pro-AfD thumb on the scale by Elon Musk and CCP. www.niemanlab.org/2025/02/in-g...

This feels like an invitation😁 So... just a heads-up that we are recruiting for 5 positions pretty soon in the area of cognitive/behavioural neuroscience/psychology. Scotland is a beautiful place and we have some amazing science going on here... watch this space!

I wanted to highlight this incredible science advocacy resource on the @sfn.org website. There's info on how to contact your legislatures, prep for meetings, and make your voice heard. Thank you to SfN for not backing down from the fight and supporting scientists! 🧠🧪 www.sfn.org/advocacy/adv...

The entire business model of American R1 universities is not viable without restoration of federal funding, & every individual institution pretending it can solve this problem alone is also not viable. University presidents need to be speaking out, collectively & loudly about this, in DC, right now.

Just found out about this. It has scripts. 5calls.org

🚨 WANT TO HELP US STAND UP FOR SCIENCE? 🚨 Here's a little update on where we're currently at with the planning process! Is your state red or grey & you want to see an event happen? Fill out our volunteer form or share with a friend! airtable.com/app4h5wUssMG... #standupforscience2025

Anyone going to the DC event? Thinking of taking the train down for the day

In 1931 Mussolini imposed to all academics to pledge allegiance to the fascist regime -- or be fired. Just *12* out of ~1200 academics chose not to in the whole country. Here are the names of those brave few who chose to forfeit their careers.

Some non-Americans are expressing a sense of helplessness watching the US. My personal recommendation to those feeling that way is to work to steel up the science infrastructure, funding, and culture in your own country. We need everyone to harbor knowledge and incubate progress while the US can't!

$100B is about 30% of all climate spending in the Inflation Reduction Act, the biggest (and only) federal climate law the US has ever passed

Tonight, Senate Dems are putting up amendment after amendment against the Republicans’ absurd plans to give another tax cut to their billionaire buddies on YOUR back. We chatted with @underthedesknews.bsky.social just off the Senate floor about how we’re fighting back: youtube.com/shorts/Fl4Y1...

Compare and contrast the emails from McKnight (left) and Chan-Zuckerberg (right). Proud to be part of the McKnight community.

Here it is finally: Our mathematical methods book for life scientists! Aimed at advanced undergrads and beginning grad students, plus all those who want a deeper look at the math behind quantitative biology. @portugueslab.bsky.social. 1/3

Just talked to a friend who works for the DoE and had 2 papers censored for violating an EO. One because it uses “toxicity” (about chemical leakage into drinking wells) & the other for “diversity” (as in “microbial diversity”). We are at Soviet-level stupidity censorship.

Would love to know how my non-American followers feel about the fact that I (and other American scientists) just post 24/7 about our country's demise now. Are you interested in keeping up with it? Or is it just background noise? Or have you muted/unfollowed me already and I'll never know...

We are going to become some kind of weird ghost country
