I spent so much time living a life of obliviousness and carelessness. I was proud of that. In my twisted thinking I thought it made me unique rather than repulsive. I didn’t bathe, I smelled, not to myself but others knew it. I had bad breath, truly bad.

I had bad acne in my teens, a chronic case most of my life, of foot and crotch fungus. As an adult, I smoked Lucky Strikes, never washed my sheets or cleaned my room. I was disgusting and was only dimly aware of that.
