Asked Sen Amy Klobuchar if she is interested in running to succeed Sen Dick Durbin in leadership: “I have a very important job to do right now. My job is to keep people unified and to keep them focused.” “There’s going to be dozens of people running for President, it appears.”

NEWS: The House adopts the Senate budget resolution 216-214 Rep Thomas Massie & Rep Victoria Spartz are the only NO votes They still have a VERY long way to go before funding President Trump’s immigration / tax agenda, but a big step by the House this morning

Dem Reps Pettersen & Jacobs called up their discharge petition for proxy voting for new parents even though it won’t go anywhere w/o Rep Luna & GOP buy-in “Speaker Johnson made it impossible for Republicans,” Pettersen said, baby in tow She criticized vote-pairing, the deal Luna & Johnson struck

The latest on proxy voting for new parents... Speaker Johnson posted this morning that he spoke to Trump (they spoke yesterday and today, per source) and Trump is deferring to him on House procedure. "Mike, you have my proxy on proxy voting" is what Johnson said Trump told him.

NEW: The DoD's Inspector General just announced an investigation into signal-gate, and Defense Secretary Hegseth's role in it It comes after a bipartisan letter from SASC leaders Wicker & Reed requesting an "expedited" probe www.dodig.mil/reports.html...

Sen Fetterman tells me he voted to rebuke Trump’s tariffs: “I don’t understand why this administration is consistently punching our ally in the face over issues. Now, if you're going to pick fights, or you're going to have fights, I don't think it should be with Canada.”

Thune & Budget Rs will meet with Pres Trump at the WH later this morning on reconciliation, with bill text expected as soon as today Meanwhile Treasury Sec Bessent will attend Senate GOP lunch per invite from Rick Scott... it comes as some Republicans are concerned over expanded tariffs

Cory Booker told us he was aware Sen Thurmond held the longest speech record since 1957 to protest the Civil Rights Act “I just found it strange that he had the record, and as a guy who's grew up with the legends of the civil rights movement… it just seemed wrong to me, it always seemed wrong.”

NAACP President Derrick Johnson on Sen Booker’s record-breaking Senate floor speech: “Despite Trump’s attempts to silence the voices, contributions, and history of Black people, a Black man just made history tonight in protest of Trump himself.”

For the past 24 hours (& 19 minutes), Sen Cory Booker has been on the Senate floor railing against the Trump administration He broke the record for the longest Senate floor speech EVER without taking a single break, as required by the rules: no sitting, no bathroom, no silence

Leader Schumer said a shutdown would be “worse than the alternative” So I asked him: what if Republicans do away with the DOE, or district courts, in the next bill? “The bottom line is they are doing such horrible things to the country that we're going to fight it in every way”

👀 Sen Roger Wicker, the top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, just said he & top Democrat Jack Reed “agreed on an approach” to investigate Signal-gate They want an expedited report from the Inspector General and are requesting a briefing from a senior official

I asked GOP Senate Intel Chair Tom Cotton if Pete Hegseth broke the law by disclosing specific military plans on that Signal chat: “Certainly, there was nothing called war plans, which was an embellishment and exaggeration by a known left wing partisan opponent of the President.”

WH suggested The Atlantic lied about the Signal chat, so they published it "...we do not publish information about military operations if that information could possibly jeopardize the lives of U.S. personnel" but "people should see the texts in order to reach their own conclusions" buff.ly/w3Bgy5Q

Many Democrats are facing outrage from their constituents who believe their elected officials are not doing enough to counter the Trump administration's agenda. I spent time in NJ7, where Democratic Senator Andy Kim heard from a packed, fired up crowd:

Democratic Sen Andy Kim holding a PACKED town hall in GOP Rep Thomas Kean Jr.’s district “You don't always have opportunities to have town halls. There's not a whole lot of opportunity… But I want to stand before you and say, I am your representative in Congress too. You are my constituents.”

If you thought Senate Democrats would back away from their threat to shut the government down unless Republicans accept a 28-day funding bill… you’re wrong. From Sen Ruben Gallego to Sen John Hickenlooper, Democrats are a steady NO on breaking the filibuster & voting for House-passed CR.

Sen Lindsey Graham plans to introduce sanctions against Russia that would impose tariffs on any country that purchases oil, gas & uranium from Russia - UNLESS Russia agrees to a ceasefire with Ukraine This would primarily impact China, Turkey & India, but EU allies as well

Senate Democrats are holding yet another long meeting to figure out the path forward on the GOP funding bill Some are pushing for the passage of Approps top Dem Patty Murray’s 30 day CR Others think it’s too late with the shut down on Friday & many are hearing from their base to shut it down

Guantanamo Bay troops guard empty migrant tents, suffer low morale, Rep Sara Jacobs told me after a bipartisan CODEL to the base “All of us had a lot of questions about the money, how few immigrants were actually there, in regards to how much money is being spent" www.nbcnews.com/politics/pol...
