If Kathy Hochul makes history as the first governor to remove the mayor of New York City, there would be a special election for the remainder of Adams’ term within 80 days. This would not affect the regularly-scheduled November general election for 2025-2029.

I can’t speak to the particulars of @kenmartin.bsky.social vs @benwikler.bsky.social but I do think Martin’s endorsers better represent the diversity of a future-oriented Democratic Party. The Minnesota DFL was one of the better state Dem parties and he should be a good DNC Chair.

If one punch doesn’t land, throw it again. And a new one. And a new one after that. All pointing in the same direction: TRUMP IS BAD. TRUMP IS CORRUPT. TRUMP IS CHAOS. TRUMP IS UNFIT. The accumulation matters, and eventually something might really blow up, but you’ll never know what in advance.

So since the election, President Biden has granted clemency to ~1,500 non-violent convicts on home confinement and 37 death-row inmates, now ~2,500 non-violent drug offenders. Previously, Biden pardoned ~6,500 federal simple marijuana possession convicts.

2021 New York City Mayoral Primary, first round estimate (left) and final round estimate (right). Eric Adams defeated former New York City Sanitation Commissioner and Emergency COVID-19 Food Czar Kathryn Garcia, 50.4%-49.6%.

Phase 1: Six week ceasefire, Hamas releases 33 Israeli hostages, Israel releases a number of Palestinian detainees. Palestinian civilians are to be allowed to return to their homes in the north, 600 aid trucks per day are to be allowed into Gaza, and the Rafah crossing is to be opened.

The take I am most certain of that gets me in the most trouble is just "The reason homes are so expensive is because there are not enough of them, so we really really really need to build more of them."

The “threat to democracy” is actually real, the NC Supreme Court is refusing the certification of an election because a Democrat won it narrowly.

There are 21 engineers in the US House of the 119th Congress

One cursed result of this latest election is that NY-14 (AOC's district) voted to the right of NY-16 (George Latimer's district) for President.

Congestion pricing is officially in effect in NYC. Here is a map (per CBS) of the areas which will be tolled. Drivers will be charged upon entering Manhattan via the Queensboro, Williamsburg, Manhattan, or Brooklyn Bridges, or the Battery, Holland, or Lincoln Tunnels.

reminder that sober drivers cause the vast majority of car crashes, drunk driving laws overwhelming target poor and marginalized people, and heavy drinking provides an important emotional outlet. but y'all can just keep demonizing alcohol i guess

The Congressional YIMBY Caucus, led by @robertgarcia.bsky.social and a bipartisan group of co-chairs, currently has 32 members, largely representing densely-populated urban districts.

Really happy to see this — now the main thing left is the potential Kash Patel targets.

Kamala Harris won 465 counties in the 2024 Election, the fewest from a major-party Presidential nominee since McGovern in 1972. Statistics for these counties -- Population (2020 Census): 168,663,904 (50.9% of the US) GDP (2023 Estimate): $14,292,965,894 (63.5%) Area (Square Miles): 684,449 (19.4%)

Wow this really sucks! Really sucks, like, for democracy, that people’s sense of general satisfaction with their lives has so much to do with ‘vibes’ and so little to do with policy preferences.

The 2024 Presidential Election has been certified in every state. Popular vote -- 🔴 Trump (R): 77,300,731 (+1.5%) 🔵 Harris (D): 75,014,526

I agree with President-elect Trump that Congress should terminate the debt limit and never again govern by hostage taking.

This is awful, effectively neuters large portions of IRA investment.

These 1,500 people represented the remaining non-violent convicts who were serving time in minimum-security prisons before the CARES Act put them in home confinement. I’m very happy with this step, hopefully there are more pardons to come.

It would be great if Kemp didn’t run — King is probably a decent candidate but lacks the name recognition and likely crossover appeal that Kemp has.

Manchin and Sinema vote no on Biden’s NLRB nominee, denying Democrats a majority that would’ve lasted for the first two years of Trump’s second term.

good point by a mutual on the other site: a lot of LLM usage is actually polarizing people against actually useful ML work, like using transformer/CNN architectures for e.g. use in medical imaging or driving

Five weeks since the 2024 General Election, and 42 states plus DC have certified their vote counts.

Really sucks to see Bernie cave to the cranks, I really believe he’s previously been a good Senator who has been successful at introducing progressivism to the public.
