Notice of funding opportunities/grants.gov pages (see MOSAIC K99/R00 here) getting closed out again, on a Friday evening to boot. So you open ‘em up, in some cases <24 hr before the deadline, only to close them a week later.

Pretty sad. Just got the email that CZI is canceling the second round of Diversity Leadership Awards. Private industry will definitely not fill the hole that NIH and NSF are leaving. 😢💔

Our latest in PNAS! 🎉 ATP-sensitive potassium channels alter glycolytic flux to modulate cortical activity and sleep Take home message? KATP channels are metabolic sensors under circadian control that gate glycolytic flux, arousal, & sleep/wake transitions. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Over the past few weeks, science funding in the U.S. has become shrouded in uncertainty. Ten trainees with diversity-based funding share how the changes are affecting their research and career plans. By @avaskham.bsky.social @claudia-lopez.bsky.social @callimcflurry.bsky.social bit.ly/42Wifxr

A career in science isn't easy. Moving forward with those plans when no one is sure about the future funding of the field is even more challenging. I appreciate these early-career neuroscientists sharing their stories with us! #neuroskyence 🧪

Can whole-brain imaging of cellular c-Fos signals be used to classify #psychedelics? 🧠🔬💊 Our study by @aboharbf.bsky.social and @pashadavoudian.bsky.social, developing an imaging and machine learning pipeline to test a panel of psychoactive drugs. Paper here 👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Diversity supplements have been reopened! New expiration date May 8 2026

Excited to share our new paper in Nature! 'Transcriptomic neuron types vary topographically in function and morphology' explores how neurons in the zebrafish optic tectum exhibit diverse functions and shapes despite similar transcriptional profiles. 🔗 rdcu.be/d9GVM

BREAKING On Monday, Popular Information broke the news that the NIH had frozen virtually all grant funding in violation of 2 federal court orders On Wednesday, NIH leadership distributed a memo, acknowledging that its funding freeze was illegal and directing staff to resume issuing grants.

As a leader in my lab & various initiatives, I’ve made my stance clear....my commitment to DEI is unwavering. I won’t back down or shy away, even as others do. I’ll continue to uphold and advocate for these values.

Mosaic K99 in my review pile was just reactivated for study section at the end of February!

Best news I’ve heard today. Thanks for sharing!

Relieved that the MOSAIC K99/R00 grants.gov page is no longer expired (updated today), and it sounds like people are able to submit apps again 🧪

@NIH’s new 15% cap on research funds threatens U.S. science. Call Congress now to oppose it! Your voice matters—act today. Find your rep’s number at govtrack.us. #SupportScience #cellbiology

📢Open call: multiple #PhD #Fellowships in #biomedical research available at our institute at #ULB in #Brussels 🇧🇪 👉🏻Our team is hoping to recruit one candidate so if you are interested in using #zebrafish to dive into the secret lives of #microglia, please get in touch! Your Action Is Needed! Congress needs to hear from scientists. Call your representatives to oppose funding freezes and restrictions on research. Find contact info at govtrack.us and make your voice heard today! #SciencePolicy www.ascb.org/science-poli...

Indeed, the MOSAIC program, just months ago hailed as a major success by the NIH, has been terminated. We are still waiting to hear what happens with previously funded grants. I discussed this recently in my interview with BBC Science in Action: t.co/I67IDPuRwE

Just got word that our Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence 3 (IE3) Grant was being canceled. All 100+ institutions. So even private funding is susceptible to this administration’s unraveling of DEI initiatives

We increased our stipend thanks to student feedback, $9,000 for 10 weeks, please help circulate to eligible UC San Diego undergraduates!

Friends, we have a school-wide search for an open rank faculty as mentor professor. It is a unique position that can be hired in a variety of departments across the school. Please check it out and share widely. recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF10062

Just in case you don’t want to take my word for it 👇🏾

Excited to share that our lab website is live! nicholassilvalab.org Please reach out if you are interested in studying neuroimmune mechanisms using the zebrafish model. 🐟🧠🥼🔬

Why should the public care about the freeze on the NIH? Aside from the need for scientific pursuits to make our society better… -For every dollar we invest in NIH research, there is a $2.5 return. -Research dollars help fund universities that employ non-academics. (1/)

Thoughts about January 20th- Happy MLK Day! I spent the long weekend on Martha's Vineyard. While there, I went to a nice talk at the MV History Museum and heard about how MLK spent his time on the island thinking, writing, and, perhaps most importantly, resting. (1/5)

Couple of opportunities up to join the group! One at postdoc level, but open to senior support path. One research assistant role. Please share, or drop a line if you want to learn more! Or just apply! Thanks! elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/Candid... elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/Candid...
