This is a grave and sobering admission: they are not pursuing the “WELL ACTUALLY he broke the law during protests,” they are bragging that they are deporting people for protected speech.

This is horrifying and dangerous.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is closer to the Eisenhower administration than now.

And also stop letting the radical right wing set the terms of what is “radical ideology.”

The thing that the Democratic leadership needs to figure out is that their base wants more radical *tactics* not more radical ideology.

The actual trajectory of Democratic opposition to Trump since 2016 is that Democrats first engaged in #resistance and cultural progressivism, won the House in 2018, defeated Trump and won a trifecta the year of the George Floyd protests, tacked right under Biden, and lost in 2024.

The mood is grim in this Ohio bar as locals consider the double whammy of tariff-driven inflation and sinking retirement funds. But they know it's a price worth paying because things will be even worse for Blacks and Hispanics.

History buffs will know that every authoritarian leader eventually converges on some version of: "I *am* the state. I can not break the law, I am the law, the law is instantiated in me." Our march to authoritarianism so far has been excruciatingly by-the-book. Hitting every beat. No surprises.

Vance’s rhetoric is exceptionally weird. He gets the ghoulish part of the Republican policies, but uses (fake) intellectualism to defend a party that has openly despises intellectualism.

Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.

“Constitutional crisis” is too mild a phrase for what’s happening here. I just don’t know what else to call it.
