Today’s spin: Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Gift Songs

boxd.it/zanS Bonkers body horror about vanity, fame, and the ways in which woman aren’t allowed to age gracefully.  Amazing performances from Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley and (mostly) great special effects but the ending fell flat for me and the running time is unnecessarily long.

Today’s spin: François J. Bonnet & @stephenomalley74.bsky.social - Cylene II

boxd.it/HLiw Heartbreaking doc about disappointment and regret. It suffers a bit from a lack of diversity in voices. White people (mostly of privilege) aren’t the only people that struggle or fail to achieve their hopes and dreams. Still worth a watch (it’s streaming on Criterion currently).

RFK Jr. is a fraud and a danger to public health. Pointing out his addiction history is unnecessary and harmful to those in recovery and those seeking it. Just because someone abused drugs in the past doesn't mean they can't have opinions and/or contribute to society. He just happens to be a fool.

Beautiful review of Azimuth, out tomorrow on @pastinside.bsky.social substack.com/home/post/p-...

Today’s spins: Khanate - Clean Hands Go Fowl Masahiko Togashi - Spiritual Nature Sarah Davachi - Selected Works 1

Now here's an exciting combination.

The preview tracks sound really nice. Check it out! #ambient #electronic #cello

Simon McCorry and I have a new album coming out on @pastinside.bsky.social later this month. You can preview two of the songs and preorder digital and CD copies via the link below. It's probably the most hopeful sounding music I've made up until this point. pitp.bandcamp.com/album/azimuth

Just spent 5 days in Costa Rica. Beautiful country. They run on 98% renewable energy sources and abolished their military in 1948 and invested the funds in primary education. 🤔

Fripp and Eno “double pack” for the win.

FUCK YES.

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

Hilarious and tragic take down of the 1930s French Bourgeoisie. I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did but it was layered and surprisingly bold (especially for a film that was released in 1939). It became clearer as the movie went on why it caused such an uproar upon release.

Fascinating, slow burn character study that is equal parts comforting and unnerving. It’s very human in that it’s full of longing and contradictions (connection/disconnection, control/no control, etc). The running time is long but it’s purposeful and allows you to feel closer to the protagonist.

“When we let ourselves hang out in the space of not-knowing, there is enormous potential and life could unfold in innumerable ways. So, rather than avoid and fear this place of uncertainty, we can embrace it and all its gifts.” — Kaira Jewel Lingo
