Trump Bump turning into the Trump Dump? MAXIMUM BEARISH (via the bank Jefferies)

Classic Telegraph here. Electric sales are up hugely in Jan in the Uk and across Europe. The UK doesn’t make any electric cars. Despite that…

Also, good to see a Golf R in its natural habitat: stolen, on a raid, space enough for gold shitters

Just incredibly depressing. What has the US become?

latest from the 'reclaim our sovereignty' campaigners...

Key line in this story from an interview with Nvidia automotive VP Ali Kani, "Many car makers talk about dramatically shortening their development cycles to try to match the Chinese, but we haven’t seen that”. www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/fea...

Tesla feeling REAL confident that UK people will want the facelifted Model Y, despite Musk's evilry. These are all the new model. Website currently not showing lease prices, so these are PCP with steep terms: for the entry its £7,400 down payment, 48 months, 10,000 miles, 9.00% APR,

It's gone up! New shape Tesla Model Y now a frankly bonkers £913 a month on lease. Not far off what Lotus is charging for an Eletre - or get a Polestar 4 for half that. Old-shape long-range still cheeeeeaaap though, which is driving sales in Feb (UK EV best-seller half way thru the month)

Got to feel for global car companies right now. China is down, possibly never coming back as local companies step in. Demand in the US was filling some of that loss but Trump’s naked resentment of anyone non-American thriving by selling Americans what they want looks likely to cut that off.

John Cobb trouser goals

Yellowstone. Sounds painful. Although not as painful as Blue Peter

Just top-drawer local-angle clickbait from the Swindon Advertiser. Nissan-Honda deal collapse apparently kills Honda’s planned return to Swindon! Despite the factory long redeveloped into a logistics park. (Full marks for the BlueSky share button though)

🇺🇸 LATEST: America Set To Crown Its First King. All Hail King Elon! 👇🏻 Please like and share this morning’s #BrokenNews report. youtu.be/FtdC5-JDMPM?...

Software driven revenue at work! Maybe you’ll be able to pay a premium NOT to see ads on your infotainment screen, but they’re coming. Same as they are on your Samsung telly home page (grr). Here’s the video mentioned m.youtube.com/watch?v=A31P...

Ethiopia banned the import of combustion engine vehicles to reduce its fuel bill. Another clarion call to non Chinese carmakers to speed development of cheap EVs or lose these markets for good.

This is a good response from the European Commission. TL;DR: we're not dignifying every brainfart with a response unless there's some solid detail, but broadly, this is fucking insane.

Hate HATE how Spotify has become another channel I have to monitor my kids’ usage on. Although thanks to the genius* algo that pollutes my homepage with very little of my actual music I already see most of it (*many galaxies far away from genius)

Train delays. Threes on the line. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c0...

oh god, new analyst call jargon just dropped. "Wanted to double-click on your commentary first on calendarization of earnings throughout the year."

“Registrations were down 63 percent in France; 60 percent in Germany; 44 percent in Sweden; 42 percent in the Netherlands; 38 percent in Norway; and 12 percent in the U.K.”

BYD sales in Jan in the UK overtook those of Tesla (down 8%). Feels like a moment. Refreshed Model Y could change that of course

Interesting JATO chart of the top 10 sellers in Europe in 2024 showing the lack of electrification in VW's three biggest models, compared to Toyota, Renault and Stellantis. Tough year in the EU for VW on current rules!

Elon Musk's mother moved to South Africa in the year Apartheid was created, and she and Elon left the year it ended. The last Apartheid Prime Minister, a man who refused to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, was a family friend who stayed at their home. This is not a crazy theory.

"It is faff, not Farage that risks killing the EV transition. However unreasonable a demand it may seem to true...believers, people need be able to drive the same model of car as they do now, living the same kind of lifestyle they do now, just powered in a different way." @steveakehurst.bsky.social

Deutsche Bank actually has a target price of 420 USD for Tesla right now, up from 399 currently. Answers the question I suppose of what they are smoking

Knowing this doesn’t prevent sadness at reading it: “Of course, Turkey has a closer economic relationship with the EU than the UK does”

End of a long era for UK supplier GKN

Brilliant. Every single issue poll should include a Don’t Care option Issued on behalf of The Campaign For The Right To Not Care

Market distorting legislation hard at work. France Land Rover registrations briefly overtook those in the UK in December as it scrambled to beat a tax that adds more 18,000 euros to a Range Rover Sport PHEV. Effectively kills the market for someone like JLR - 97% of sales there last year were PHEV.

Haha at Tesla more than doubling the lease cost of the Model Y for the ‘LAUNCH’ edition of the facelift model.
