I would be genuinely happy if the only, the *only* lesson the Dem establishment took from this was “yeet all dynasty candidates and everything/everyone associated with the Clinton Era into the sun”.

Feels like ranked choice was absolutely decisive in this race—not because of the vote count, but because of how it changed the incentives from zero-sum to cooperapetitive. It allowed a fractured left field to align organically through co-endorsements instead of falling into a circular firing squad.

If he wins in November, he's going to need many competent progressive people who wouldn't touch city government with a ten foot poll to join city government. A long bench is needed. that's a lesson from Chicago.

“hot commie summer” AKA “a series of clearly-defined pragmatic interventions to effectively stem the tide of 2 generations of relentless, regressive, systemically invisibilized, exterminating class warfare by the wealthy and maybe get us back to something resembling an America with social mobility”

I love really clearly feeling like I'm getting better at Japanese and I really like working with my tutor!! He's like exactly what I was looking for. I was also reminded this weekend that I should be targeting some level of the JLPT as my next clearly organized goal. Can I skip 5 at this point??

Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) at the Venice Japanese Community Center is taking place once again this weekend. I signed up for my first class of getting back on the Japanese language horse 2 years ago at this very festival! I love volunteering and being a part of this community.

From a visit to the Seattle library, 2017.

One of the hollowest victories of American hegemony ever was killing bin Laden. His motive to get us to destroy ourselves from within by abdicating our civil liberties & becoming a pariah state thru increasingly unpopular rogue actions in defense of a dying empire succeeded w/flying colors. He won.

Horrified of course, but honestly surprised that that bloodthirsty walrus fuck John Bolton wasn’t involved when we finally did it. But yeah, reaping what we sow out of every single American president being a war criminal who suffers no criminal prosecution or meaningful consequences, ever.

ReaCursive – a script for recursive processing in Reaper ala Alvin Lucier's "I am Sitting in a Room". Work in progress. Might finish and release it later on. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZiB...

This is incredibly beautiful storytelling.

Holy shit, what a nostalgia bomb. I played the hell out of this game as a kid. Definitely burned into my brain permanently. This is a realtime segment, but I didn't remember how much of this game follows the "multimedia CD-ROM interactive diorama" format that I still constantly describe to people.

I’ve never pre-emptively blocked an account faster in my life.

I can’t say I would recommend needing to fast, having insomnia, getting 90min of sleep, getting four vials of blood drawn, and then spending your entire work day attempting to sort out merge conflicts.

Anybody playing Firebreak?

Ten years out, I feel just as confident as I did when I first heard it that Björk’s Vulnicura belongs in her S Tier alongside Vespertine and Homogenic (the record it is most similar to, imo). Utopia & Fossora still haven’t made their way into me. I put them both in C tier alongside Volta, sadly.

Father of Csound, but also a beacon in giving everyone the power to realize the sounds of their dreams. Notes by Dr. Richard Boulanger + a vintage interview round-up.

VR gaming has come a long way since the days of the Oculus Rift CV1, and we're looking back at some early PC VR gems. Details here: www.uploadvr.com/five-classic...

UPDATE: The City of LA has spent $19.7 MILLION so far in response to the June protests against ICE. This spans a week-and-a-half thru June 16, 2025. (These do not include potential lawsuits or liability claims)
