It was a particularly good day for Caspian Gulls at Abberton today, though viewing wasn't helped by some pretty awful weather! This bird, one of 13+ seen, was a really obvious snouty individual #essexbirding

To the best of my knowledge, we broke the 🚨 world longevity record 🚨 for Mediterranean Gull on Saturday, with this bird re-trapped at Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. Ringed at Folkestone, Kent, as an adult in February 2001, it’s now in at least its 28th calendar year, with no sightings since 2001! (🧵 1/2)

January count in mid-Essex: total 3,630 Linnet across 3 sites on farm including this flock of 2,640 (videod/freeze photo to count birds). Further flocks of 500 (x2) and 200). Also 400 Chaffinch, 26 Brambling, Woodcock, 3 Tawny Owl, 2 Marsh Tit, Nuthatch and 1000 Wood Pigeon. #essexbirding #birds

Still lots to see at Abberton Res including 28 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE & RING-NECKED DUCK and delighted to see the LESSER SCAUP after 5 unsuccessful visits! #essexbirding #BirdsSeenIn2025 #birds

At least three Short-eared Owls hunting over Lady Fen, 21 Crane flew over the washes late afternoon. Hybrid Pochard from main obs and Whooper Swans around on the fields and washes #Norfolkbirding @wwtworldwide.bsky.social

A few of the 42 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE near Long Melford sewage works this morning before they flew a short distance to nearby Liston Common in Essex. Highlights at the sewage works were 12 Chiffchaffs, 89 Pied Wagtails and 2 Grey Wagtails. #suffolkbirding #essexbirding
