I think tech companies would be smart — *selfishly* smart — to start posting on platforms other than X. The DOGE-X nexus is going to deeply shape American perceptions about AI, and you will actually want your brand to have some differentiation from that four years from now.

Wtf

David Brooks quoting the manifesto positively was not on my bingo cards.

U.S. MOVES AHEAD WITH PLAN TO CHARGE FEES ON CHINESE SHIPS -WSJ

Think I'm starting to get the hang of making illustrations for my work.

Reuters oped has quite the opening paragraph www.reuters.com/breakingview...

was recently described as "mysterious and alluring". just so you folks know.

This is probably one of the biggest stories in the history of American energy. A fully permitted energy project already under active construction, ordered to stop over what is at least publicly just vague claims of issues with permits. What are the issues? Which permits? Who’s to say.

5 DIFFERENT WAYS TO THINK ABOUT THE CRISIS In today's Odd Lots newsletter, I wrote about possible historical parallels to our current environment. What's similar, what's different etc. Sub to the newsletter here! www.bloomberg.com/account/news...

"... largest single services export for the United States, accounting for 22 percent of the country’s services exports and 7 percent of all exports in 2023. ... contributed $2.3 trillion to the U.S. economy in 2022 (2.97 percent of the country’s GDP), supporting 9.5 million jobs"

American exceptionalism is electing a pariah government so repugnant that it tanks the electoral prospects of aligned right wing governments across the entire anglosphere

"Israeli media have reported a marked increase in the number of reservists refusing to show up for army duty, pointing to rapidly declining support for a war that critics – including within the military – say is no longer motivated by Israel’s security interests..." www.france24.com/en/middle-ea...

nobody believes in "raising awareness" anymore, but everyone believes it in the negative: if nobody knows what to do pragmatically, that can only mean nobody cares enough, and you see people driving themselves into paroxysms of misanthropic despair instead of figuring out what to do pragmatically

NEW: Judge Boasberg finds probable cause for contempt against the Trump administration: "The Constitution does not tolerate willful disobedience of judicial orders — especially by officials of a coordinate branch who have sworn an oath to uphold it." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

3 hours of the IT team trying to install office on my new machine, yeah baby we’re back in corporate America

they don't want you to know that there's actually no such thing as a floating signifier.

Crazy that they could never make a millennial/zoomer version of Seinfeld or similar sitcom because they don't let in competent writers any more.

Crazy just how important North Korea became to the war in Ukraine, supplying very large percentages of the munitions and missiles used by Russia. They've also been adapting and improving www.reuters.com/world/europe...

Heya comrades, gonna work on a MUG bluesky, but just so you know issue 2 of Light and air is out! www.marxistunity.com/light-and-air

The trouble with American presidents is that they all utilize traditional American folk ways of knowing.

Didn't catch this part, apparently they're repealing the tariffs on electronics but may slap them back on later so not even this exemption is set in stone

Lol

WSJ reporting on some of what China's plan is. Includes keeping currency stable to promote move to trade in yaun

Haven't seen this before, the s&p 500 ETF I follow on my Google watchlist is gyrating up and down 1% within seconds

Interesting that the bond auction went well only for the sell off to continue. I guess it must still be hedge funds being forced to unwind. www.barrons.com/articles/us-...

Going about how I expected www.nbcnews.com/news/world/c...

Its such a beautiful tragicomic ending to the American century. You couldn't have written it any better.

Reuters suggests the bond market route is due to hedge funds being forced to unwind big time www.reuters.com/markets/glob...

Once the logic of a system breaks, what comes next often doesn't follow from the previous internal contradictions. Something to keep in mind.

WSJ was reporting the other day there's a big lack in back channels with China to actually negotiate anything

Even worse than I expected, retaliation may be inevitable with a lot of random countries because the administration isn't actually picking up the phone or giving an off ramp

IF U SEE THIS POST A BEACH PHOTOGRAPH FROM UR TELEPHONE

crazy that they’re going to do covid on purpose in a few hours, except without any of the vibes of everyone trying to make the best of a bad situation

I really can't believe they're actually just gonna flush US hegemony down the drain. They're really that stupid. Sure. Good. Time to think about what comes next.

zizek is kinda a hack with the way he uses Lacan, or is like derivative in a way that he doesn't really "get" the full theory of structuralism/semiotics. Im assuming the bad influence of post-structuralism there.

Lacan seems to say that the sign for reality is a higher order sign created by the combination of continuity with awareness of the symbolic lack of reality
