Something to remember: ppl who don't draw are often inexperienced in observing and commenting on art. They try to connect w/ it on familiar grounds, which means relating it to something they know and understand. Often, people relating your work to other things is them trying to relate to it in turn.

Often times, less is more. If you can break the composition down into its 2 main colors, it will help clarify the palette. Block in the main parts (foreground, character, BG) with just monochrome colors, then add different colors from there. This helps if you're struggling with color in your work.
