The arm of the organisation that includes Elsevier had "revenue of £3.05bn, giving it an adjusted operating [profit] margin of 38.4 per cent." To put that in context: - Google's operating margin is 33.03% - Apple's is 29.7% - Exxon Mobil's is 14.61% - Toyota's is 11.98% - Amazon's is 6.53% 👀

I tried to write an overview of all the ways that science is being attacked and damaged by the Trump administration.

New @erc.europa.eu funded #ConvergeAnt paper on phylogenetics and transcriptomics of chitinase gene repertoires in convergent ant-eating mammals finally published in @genomebiolevol.bsky.social doi.org/10.1093/gbe/...

Do you think marine evolution #MarEvol is cool? Maybe you were at the 2018 Marine Evolution meeting in Strömstad, Sweden? And surely you'd like us to do it again and organise MarEvol2? Why not in the South of France? Then fill in this questionnaire and spread the word: framaforms.org/my-interest-...

A couple of months ago I tried the @peercommunityin.bsky.social publishing system & I can only recommend it (pun intended). Please see below to change how we publish science 1/n

Hi, ISEM is coming to Bluesky, if you're interested in #evolutionarybiology, if you're curious about the research being carried out in #Palaeo++ #GlobalChange… You've come to the right place! @cnrsoccitanieest.bsky.social @umontpellier.bsky.social @ird-fr.bsky.social @cirad.bsky.social

Now published in Peer Community Journal, #evolutionarybiology section: Investigating the effects of diurnal and nocturnal pollinators on male and female reproductive success and on floral trait selection in Silene dioica

Very interesting thread by ex editor in chief of Science #AcademicPublishing https://bsky.app/profile/jeremymberg.bsky.social/post/3lgbggd7nss2b

In 2010 (SMBE Lyon) I gave a talk about the impact of GC-biased gene conversion (gBGC) on functional sequence evolution. I argued that, because gBGC promotes G and C alleles irrespective of their fitness effect, it should generate some genetic load. 1/5

Really happy that our manuscript led by Florent Sylvestre "Sex-biased gene expression across tissues reveals unexpected differentiation in the gills of the threespine stickleback" was recommended to PCI Evolutionary biology by @nicolasgaltier.bsky.social evolbiol.peercommunityin.org/PCIEvolBiol/...

What's new this morning on Bluesky? Five ~commercial posts by an Elsevier account 😒. Rage-block. #ScientificPublishing

The strain on scientific publishing: we set out to characterise the remarkable growth of the scientific literature in the last few years, in spite of declining growth in total scientists. What is going on? direct.mit.edu/qss/article/... A 🧵 1/n #AcademicSky #PhDchat #ScientificPublishing #SciPub
