From life-saving cancer treatments to breakthrough vaccines, NIH funding fuels the medical discoveries that keep us healthy. Every dollar invested drives research that touches millions of lives. #NIH #MedicalResearch #SavingLives

Let's be very clear: Gutting science/education sectors and calling it 'cost-savings' is manipulative and false. The truth: People in ALL states will lose jobs, cures for your diagnoses will be delayed, tuition costs will spike. The world depends on US Science and Ed and both will suffer severely.

🧬🦠🧠🥼🧪📈🟦 @ebi.embl.org: Many scientists are worried that vital biomedical data housed in U.S. government databases is at risk. Which aspects of NCBI are mirrored on EMBL-EBI? Do you plan to back up more U.S. data? @altcdc.bsky.social @altnih4science.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Holy smokes I missed this. They have dismissed the directors of the VA’s Centers for Women

Thoughts with all who died in the crash and with those who love them 💔

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942. I know. I was there in those camps.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

In 2014 Dutch scientists left a hamster wheel outside, to see if wild animals would use it like their domesticated counterparts. The answer: hell yes! 734 visits from wild mice - plus rats, shrews, slugs ("running" being subjective here) & even frogs and snails. The apparent reason: fun. Just fun.

The NIH diversity supplement pages have all been pulled down. What is a diversity supplement and why should the public care? A diversity supplement is funding to help diversify the research workforce. You may be wondering, “so what?”. Let me explain. www.nigms.nih.gov/Pages/PageNo...

It’s *these* stories that are important to highlight. The medications we rely on for any health condition trace back to research made possible by the NIH.

Federal disruptions delay research, jobs, & training: ➡️ NIH grant delayed ➡️ Study reviews stalled ➡️ Fellowship in limbo One billionaire's net worth > NIH budget by $385.3B, yet research funding faces cuts. Alarming. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I just reached out to my senators about the NIH situation. If you need to find out how much impact NIH has in your state in terms of dollars in and their economic impact here's a link: www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

There is a difference between being scared for your perceived way of life, and being scared for you literal lives, and the people who have and are using the former to justify imposing the latter are just the absolute worst that humanity has to offer. I fucking hate this.

Excited to announce the 2025 @njgvrc.bsky.social Firearm Suicide Prevention Fellows! This amazing group of young scholars comes from so many fields + from all over the US. We have such a great day planned! @alliebond.bsky.social lp.constantcontactpages.com/cu/ZNQxCCV/F...

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH** * Currently paused by Executive Order ** Grant reviews now all canceled www.kcur.org/news/2025-01...

Breaking: DOJ freezes all cases in civil rights division. "It’s unprecedented. We’ve never seen this before at this scale with any transfer of power, regardless of the ideology of any incoming president or administration." Story w/ @perrystein.bsky.social www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Studies (N=3,000) find men and women withheld contributions more in uncivil groups than civil ones. But women silenced more than men only when their group was uncivil. In civil groups, women reported speaking up just as much as men. hbr.org/2025/01/rese...

"Fossil fuels are losing their grip on EU energy. Heart goes out to friends and colleagues whose work will be put on hold or lost because of this lunacy. #AcademicSky #EduSky #EducationalResearch

Communications shutdown. Travel ban. Canceled study sections. Now a hiring freeze? Shutting down the NIH indefinitely without stated cause is literally an act of sabotage. Left: yesterday. Right: today.

This isn't reality, this is the theme and plot for a new Batman movie.

Scientific advancements aside, this is economically irresponsible Every $1 spent by NIH generates $2.46 For example, in 2023, $47B in NIH spending generated ~$93B Halting NIH spending will LOSE the US a lot of money (and talent)
