Yesterday we heard that our Faculty Board Betascience decided to terminate our department of Earth Sciences wholesale because they believe lab-based science is "too expensive", closing one of the two broad Earth Science departments left in the Netherlands. Every once in awhile I'm reminded brachiopods are criminally underrated invertebrate animals. Their fossil record is absolutely spectacular with respect to taxonomic diversity and numerical abundance, and also they're just really cool little guys
