Kendra reported out this piece in 2020 on how the media covers protests “The role of protest is to publicize grievances from people who typically exist outside of traditional power structures. It’s why freedom of assembly is written into the Constitution, along with freedom of the press”

REVIEW: The real murder in this whodunit adaptation “Towards Zero” is what they did to the Agatha Christie original Why adapt a murder mystery to the screen if you don’t care about the mechanics of the story to begin with?

Really love #1 Happy Family USA, on Hulu today. The irreverent new series, inspired by Ramy Youssef's teenage life, claims it's not a representation of Muslims or anyone else depicted, while also sincerely reflecting experiences of assimilation, post-9/11 Islamophobia and high school awkwardness.

Here’s what your giant of cinema is working on Quite a choice

Yes to all of this Not sure what the brand's reputation was more recently, but early on it distinguished itself as a place to buy household goods and other items cheaply ... but unlike Walmart & K-Mart, they didn't LOOK cheap and sad, they had a sense of design and style! Hence "Tar-zjay"

I often think of when Jeff Bezos sent William Shatner into low orbit because "haha spaceman funny" and when he got back he was deeply moved about the fragility of earth, the importance of caring for our one and only home... and they shuffled him aside because that wasn't the vibe they were going for

Hello! I know I've been on and off this platform lately, but I'm still getting my feet planted at Esquire, which yes, I started full-time last week. Already have a few pieces up with some REALLY good ones coming very soon. For now, my author page to get caught up: www.esquire.com/author/27206...

Snap curfews are not curfews. A curfew is a regulation or a policy, which means it needs to be clearly legible to the people it covers and to the people enforcing it. This is an expansion of police powers for the ad hoc creation of status offenses (actions prohibited for some people, here: kids)

On this sacred occasion of Publishers Marketplace Screenshot Day, I thought I'd say a bit about what DAD: A POP HISTORY is going to be and where it came from... 1/x

That's the agricultural circle of life! People really just coast on "poor farmers from 50 years ago were struggling & getting pushed out" and don't do the math on what happens after 50 years of that 💀

"I don't see why being a terrible person should have an impact on one's career!" --Terrible People

There's simply no ethical way to support Harry Potter in 2025. It's not possible. $0.20 from every dollar you give JK Rowling goes directly to physically harming a trans person and that's not a joke or an exaggeration.

Today is #CanFilmDay @CanFilmDay.bluesky.social, and as a screening partner, I'll be hosting a YouTube Live discussion with Filipino Canadian filmmaker Kent Donguines at 6pmEST. We'll be chatting about his 2022 documentary CANADIAN ADOBO and how his heritage and culture inspire his art and career.

JKR funded the campaign group behind all this btw. This is why we beg you to stop engaging with Harry Potter media.

US farmers being wealthy is a relatively recent thing (since 1998) but it's absolutely true. The median US small family farmer has a net worth of ~$1.2M. That puts them in the top 10% of wealth for the United States. bsky.app/profile/sara...

Some stuff you can do for trans women right now today instead of/in addition to making posts about how trans people are valid: 1. Hire them 2. Donate to their gfms 3. Boost their work 4. Involve them in the conversation about what is happening worldwide to trans rights (looking @ u podcasts)

Honored to win the Carnegie Fellowship for my project that centers the costs of borders here, in Palestine, & elsewhere & argues that their violence not only dehumanizes those who move against them but erodes the rights of all within the nation that built them 1/ www.carnegie.org/awards/honor...

I like Stanley Tucci as an actor. I know his interest in cuisine is sincere. And yet these shows strike me as so banal You might feel otherwise so here's some info!

Congratulations to Prof. @hebagowayed.bsky.social, who has been awarded an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship to write a book that exposes the human costs of guarding borders against migrants www.gc.cuny.edu/news/graduat...

The Washington Times is still owned by a holding company associated with the Unification Church. EWTN (Eternal World Television Network) is 24-hour Catholic programming. Christian Broadcasting Network is Christian. No wires, 3 Christian entities in the press pool.

If you're curious what this means in raw numbers, Netflix says North of North has had over 3M views in its first 4 days on the service.

Please use Alt Text for images here. It's not hard, and it's often easier to read than text heavy screenshots.

Someone just liked this outta the blue and honestly this is as good a time as any to boost this show Was one of my favorites of 2024 (though it premiered in Australia in 2021). If you have AMC+ (which carries Sundance Now programming) I highly recommend!!

You're correct on the date! Guess how one finds that out? BY CLICKING ON A LINK TO THE STORY! (which is why even a screenshot with alt text isn't enough, including links is essential)
