Maine

More lichen from a windswept mountain top, this time Mount Battie in Camden, Maine.

Trees, lichen, colour

More moss and lichen in Acadia NP

A windswept landscape full of life and colour. Cadillac Mountain, Maine. Look at the lichens!

Good lichen even on top of windswept Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Maine.

Lichen in Acadia National Park, Maine

Misty, maritime Maine

Scones with lemon curd in the sun. Hard to beat.

Belvedere House itself can be glimpsed behind the dancing trees. It is being renovated so we could not see the inside. But the garden was glorious!!

Happy World Table Tennis Day!

In Sligo, there is amazing scenery pretty much wherever you turn. This is across from the devils' chimney waterfall. It would be even better if there were native trees on the slopes where the sheep currently are.

A magfificent tree

Excellent trees and lichens at Belvedere House near Mullingar. Definitely worth another visit.

Waves and clouds at Strandhill Beach

Bluebells at Hazelwood Forest near Sligo town

Admiring Atlantic waves at Mullaghmore Point, at both extremes of my 24-120mm lens. Afterwards, we had stunning mushroom soup, lobster bisque chowder and a heretical but lovely raspberry and white chocolate scone at the Harbour Cafe.

A view from inside the early mediaeval stone fort Cashelbaun, showing part of its outer wall.

Creevykeel Neolithic court tomb, co. Sligo (4000-2500 BC). Overall, the mound is about 50 metres long, with two main burial chambers beyond the court. www.archaeology.ie/monument-of-...

Sliabh League is a bit more obvious in this photo. Both Sligo and Donegal are highly recommended. Mindblowing scenery!

We had a lovely coastal walk at Aughris Head today. The prominent hill in the photo is Knocknarea, with Queen Maeve's tomb just visible as a mound on top. And you can even see Slieve League in Donegal to the left. It is nice to be in Ireland :)

Great view from our hotel room in Sligo, near Rosses Point.

Luminous, melodic jazz with French jazz group Canto in Kungsbacka. Laurent Derache on Accordion was outstanding. This was the first concert of a tour of Halland.

Two views of the same wee drop that is part of Silverfallet, a water fall that powered alum and lime mining. Oh, and a blåsippa (blue anemone, hepatica, liverwort), a very important sign of spring here.

More fun with lichens. I love the way the camera changes how one sees things.

Crane poses

A grandstand view of the cranes from our Motorhome.

Glamping. And looking forward to the dance of the cranes in the morning.

Moss, lichen and a wee bit of tree worship at Särö Västerskog

Fun with a macro lens. Lichens and moss.

Another lovely walk home after braving table tennis with the pensioners’ group at my club for the first time. 24 men and me :) It was great fun and they were super friendly. I saw these 2 oyster catchers on the way home. They flew away when I tried to get nearer.

I reckon spring has sprung

A lovely walk home by the sea after table tennis.

Sun!

Due to the Truls Moregardh effect, lots of kids (and adults) want to take up table tennis in Sweden. My club has 100 kids on a waiting list, but only 3 girls. It is like computer science ... But things are being done. I play in a training group for women and look forward to sbtf.se/ping-pong-po...

UK friends! Tonight Birdsong makes its UK TV debut on BBC4 at 9pm. It will also be available on BBC Player thereafter. Please spread the word! Extract taken from The Times.

Looking good

Eek. It might be a day for indoor pursuits.

It’s International Women’s day again. How do we think the men who hold power in various places are doing? It must be time to raise our voices again.

Bye bye Rungstedsgaard. A very enjoyable visit. These two always remind me of myself happily playing table tennis.

Denmark feels surprisingly foreign, but in a nice way. We went to a slightly weird food court in Helsingör and had exceptionally good fish and chips from the Fish Project. Best I have had in years. And then splendid coffee and cake from Patio. The castle (Elsinore) is great but there is more to see.

Denmark here we come!

Lichens today at Sofiero
