Oh man... Sad news. I always loved Peter David's work because of the humanity it brought to superhero comics. The characters were relatable and felt like people. You got to know them as you read, and because of his those versions still feel so definitive in my mind.

at first you think "ah the dog is passively having fun" and then you realize the dog knows how to steer the skateboard and THEN you learn the dog knows how to PROPEL the skateboard

Tieteen vapaus on yksi demokraattisen yhteiskunnan kulmakivistä. Viime vuosien kehitys, jossa tutkimuksen vapautta ja tutkitun tiedon tärkeyttä on vähätelty, herättää aiheellista huolta tiedeyhteisössä, toteaa Tieteentekijöiden liittokokous julkilausumassaan. #TieteenVapaus buff.ly/1JjWkEC

Then perish.

I did not get hired at the Onion, unfortunately. Truly, this is a tragic loss to the public, as they have been deprived the benefit of my contributions to such an august publication. In order that this loss should be mitigated, like this post, and I'll post one headline from my submission packet.

I co-edited this for Solmukohta 2020, and it is finally on the internet for all and sundry to peruse! Well, has been since late last year apparently, but I only found out today.

There’s a widespread story that Boal’s Forum Theatre and “spect-actor” practice originates from a woman demanding to intervene in one of his Arena Theatre plays in the 60s, but I can’t find any actual evidence for this. The first proper mentions I’m seeing are from Peru in 1973 – any help?

Distrust arbitrary categorization, especially binaries.

Even if Duolingo is helping you as it once did me, deleting your account is the only correct move right now. The company posted record profits, but capitalist greed means they're killing jobs, lowering quality, and will be creating an increasingly inferior experience for increasingly higher prices.

Indeed, it's not happening secretly. She's been very public about it.

I find myself citing "Appelcline 2014, 317" so often that I wish the layout had managed to bring it just one page back.

There’s a fully funded PhD student ship at the University of Glasgow for someone with an interest in fan fiction and online fan communities! The topic sounds awesome, and the supervisor is excellent. Give it a share! #academicsky

To the surprise of nobody, that picture made a lot of the usual weirdos big mad. #warhammer40k #warhammercommunity

📯PUBLICATION NEWS📯 Very stoked to share this special issue that I co-edited with the world, full of great reflections on the theme of 'Meta' applied to various #GameStudies contexts. A link to the full issue is here, but let's dig in to each of the pieces, shall we? dl.acm.org/toc/games/20...

where are all the cis feminists who, a week ago, were raising hell because this happened to a cis woman?? is this not also the “logical endpoint of transphobia” or do we not care so much when it’s an actual trans woman?

This is such a fucking shame. So many people worked so hard to make NaNoWriMo what it was, and it was all squandered to prop up a plagiarism machine, truly betraying everything NaNo represented: the limitless creativity of normal people.
