Surprising how hard it is to find these things in Sydney. Maybe I haven’t found the right term to search for. DuPont connector? Jumper connector? Well I have a few now from China!

Fixed the right channel in that Soundblaster Pro, but no idea how. Gave it a good clean and now it’s good, must have been a contact somewhere but I’d already tested that. Oh well, I’ll take it.

Thinking about making my first ever order on PCBWay: a HIDman (github.com/rasteri/HIDman) USB to PS/2 and serial converter. Actually, maybe like five of them to distribute to local enthusiasts to make the run worth it.

Finally acquired a holy grail card for a good price - a Soundblaster Pro 2. Condition unknown, though…

We have some high tech stuff hooked up to this 386. AN MT32-pi, of course, and a more modern MIDI unit the venerable old SC-55. What’s also cool is the USB4VC box, allowing me to use this nice Durgod keyboard and Logitech wireless mouse. Plus the Xbox wireless controller!

I must say the output of the ET4000AX is surprisingly crisp and stable, and that’s on a Dell 2007fpb, so flaws show up. Pity it’s only an 8 bit RAMDAC. I wonder if I can upgrade it.

Can’t leave things alone. Plundered some 70ns RAM out of this Trident and upgraded the ET4000AX - it had half a meg of mixed 70 and 80ns before.

The 386, fully loaded. Bottom to top: PicoGUS, SB16 with OPL3, ET4000AX, AHA-1542CF SCSI, a 3Com 3C509 and a garbage multi-IO card to give me floppy and serial.

The BlueSCSI in this 386 doesn’t mess around. The limiting factor here is the ISA bus on the AHA-1540CF, this 386 won’t let me go full bus mastering sadly! #bluescsi #dos

Yikes.

386, mounted up! How’s the tablecloth? I’ve got an anti static pad next to this, I promise.

Got hold of a 486 with a severely battery damaged board but the nicest condition AT case I’ve seen in years, and look what was in it: a Tseng ET4000AX! Now that’ll pair well with a 386…
