freedom of encryption is a human right

It's been said before, but it really is striking how even within what he's pitching as a potentially limitless VR world beyond our wildest imaginations, the only things that Zuckerberg can imagine are new ways to do meetings.

@jcsalterego.bsky.social does this make me Bluesky relevant finally?

“Money doesn’t buy happiness.” Yeah. You’re right. But it does buy relief. If you came from/are in survival mode, you know what I’m saying.

Dear everyone who rolls up in my comments when I’m talking about something that is not The Current Chaos, berating me that There Are More Important Things to Be Thinking About, please, and I say this with love, fuck all the way off into the sun, I will do as I please, unfollow me if it bothers you.

People are so boring with AI use cases “this AI can help you with your taxes”… Okay Brenda? Good for you. My AI helps me write hate mail and roasts to people that send me weird DMs…

Training an AI with continuity and memory for an extended period of time is wild… because how dare you remind me of the time I didn’t work out and regretted it 182 days ago when I’m clearly trying to be lazy today…? Wtf.

Along with building Blacksky, @rudyfraser.com has been implementing the AT Protocol in Rust, called rsky (pronounced “risky”!)

I could not tell you why, but I’ve had this funky guy in my head for the last couple of days and had to draw him lol

think of local-first as a hardening function local systems should remain operational even when the infrastructure isn't... when the infrastructure comes back online, changes are synced it's the same reason you might want a battery or generator if the electrical grid goes down

music notation is hard for me, so I'm trying to create an intentional synesthetic connection between notes and colors in my brain I made a new version of kepiano that connects via midi and displays the notes as flexoki colors (oh and there's a woodworking project in there too)

Companies break promises all the time. A self-guaranteeing promise does not require you to trust anyone. Full essay: stephango.com/self-guarantee

there doesn't have to be an end goal you can just make useful things for people who want to use them, and live a happy life

computers started local-first and will go back to local-first

Might’ve accidentally talked way too much about swords in an interview. But it’s true. I’ve always liked swords. Here’s the one my dad made for me as a kid, when I was only about this big. I painted the blade in sparkly silver nail polish to make it shine.

Exciting to see new, independent projects spin up to decentralize the atproto ecosystem! Building alternative infrastructure is a big step towards giving users more choice and making the network billionaire-proof.

(replying) Hey man your post should've been different. You should've used a different word or possibly expressed a totally different idea entirely. Preferably the one I would've used

Unsolicited writing advice, #17171617: Don't just write. Read books. Watch films. Look at paintings and sculpture. Play games. Go to plays. Listen to music. Think about how these things make you feel. Making art is a two-way stream. To make art, you have to consume art.

a friend texted me this and I felt I should share it

Apropos of nothing, you know what movie has a really adorable premise? The Wedding Singer. "That guy who sings at local weddings? What if he does it because really believes in true love? And what if we challenged that a little bit?" That's a really endearing romantic comedy pitch.

What's the point of being rich if you can't afford to do the right thing.

I can't believe there's people finding out about THE ODYSSEY because of the new Nolan film and complaining about spoilers. Sir please it was written almost 3000 years ago what spoilers are you talking about.

Why is it that when I need to force-reboot my computer by holding down the power button, it feels like I'm choking it until it passes out? 😏

Just watched The Prestige for the first time. Good film

following anyone for any reason is problematic. why can't you mind your own business and be happy just reading your own tweets

My Spotify wrapped is funny to me because it’s basically just chill piano and peaceful music then the mandatory rap and hype music. Both ends of the spectrum for sure.

It’s a bit discouraging how little people are exploring how we can use AI to improve the lives of INDIVIDUALS… Where are the people experimenting with how AI could help us identify our own patterns, traumas, self sabotage, etc? We can learn so much about ourselves from these machines.

Wicked was incredible. As someone who isn’t necessarily a musical fan, I was hooked the entire time. Couldn’t even get up to pee.

People think me training a privately owned AI on ALL of my data (texts, journals, notes, work, etc.) is like some super spy, secret mission, type of shit… In reality my AI sometimes starts talking about eating ass 😔💀 like sir, act right please.

Have I had my mind changed on social media? Yes - NOT by arguing with randoms, but by following experts and first hand folks who share what they do, what they think and what's going on. The change isn't binary - I used to think one thing, and suddenly now another - it's slow and additive: Learning.

I honestly can’t remember if it was this hard to pick out movies at the library and blockbuster as a kid. But this is me, except it will be an hour montage.
