The mass firing of General Services Administration staff and the potential disposal of federal courthouses will have grave consequences. These steps undermine the independent federal judiciary and deprive the American people of justice. It's unacceptable.

Donald Trump is reintroducing Schedule F, which will make it easier to fire federal workers. It's deeply troubling that the administration is attempting to replace dedicated civil servants with loyalists. The federal workforce should not be politicized.

The SAVE Act will make it significantly harder, if not outright impossible, for millions of eligible voters to register to vote--especially women, communities of color, and working families. Silencing citizens is dangerous for democracy. The Senate should reject this bill.

The Department of Justice says pardoned Jan. 6 participants are entitled to a refund of the payments they made to cover damage to the Capitol. Let's not forget: These pardons include people who assaulted law enforcement and vandalized historic chambers.

The Freedom of Information Act is a crucial tool that grants public access to records. Firing FOIA staff at the CDC and FDA, who get key information to Americans, is dangerous. Americans need to know more about what their government is doing, not less.

CREW sued the Office of Management and Budget today for removing its apportionments database, information that OMB is required by law to post. To ensure accountability, it is crucial that American taxpayers know how the government spends their money.

Donald Trump kept his businesses while serving as president, which is going to lead to more conflicts of interest that could affect policy and more chances for self-enrichment. The American people don't like people using government to enrich themselves. As more comes out, it will anger people.

Last weekend, @crew.bsky.social filed a lawsuit challenging the closure of the CDC's entire Freedom of Information Act office. Given the ongoing outbreaks of multiple diseases, the American people need to know how the CDC is operating.

This is important: Ousted Department of Justice officials will testify at a hearing today about the Trump administration's recent attacks on the rule of law. Credit to Senator Schiff and Representative Raskin for pushing for accountability.

Donald Trump has removed a top official almost every other day since taking office, representing an unprecedented attack on independent agencies and government accountability. CREW's tracker is a key resource to keep up with every firing and its legality:

It's clear that our existing framework of checks and balances is ill-equipped to protect democracy from the threats posed by the Trump administration. @crew.bsky.social suggested five ways Congress can step up to help limit executive branch overreach.

Donald Trump never divested from his businesses, instead expanding them across the globe. What's most troubling is that anyone doing business with Trump, including foreign governments, could reap benefits from his presidential decisions down the road.

NEW: Donald Trump has fired an unprecedented number of government watchdogs and senior appointees in his first two months in office. @crew.bsky.social tracks them, explains why the firings are so problematic, and breaks down which ones are illegal (spoiler: a lot).

A new @crew.bsky.social analysis shows that 19 Trump-branded real estate projects will be developed in foreign countries during Trump's presidency. This aggressive foreign expansion creates massive potential for conflicts which could affect his decision-making.

Regardless of whether Donald Trump was joking, the constitution is not. The 22nd amendment is clear. He cannot be elected to a third term. For Trump to suggest otherwise is wrong and dangerous.

NEW: The Vietnamese Prime Minister expressed support for expediting the development of a Trump Organization project, according to Vietnamese news reports. These kinds of projects let foreign governments give special treatment to President Trump’s businesses, which the president still profits from.

Congress must reject the PEPPER Act, which would essentially immunize presidents and other top officials from state and federal prosecution. @crew.bsky.social and 38 partner groups call on Congress to reject this roadblock to accountability: www.citizensforethics.org/legal-action...

Last week, @crew.bsky.social had an important win in our case challenging the FEC's dismissal of our complaint against Freedom Vote, a dark money group. This decision will make it easier to seek accountability in court if the FEC fails to enforce the law. www.citizensforethics.org/news/press-r...

It's troubling that the independent office tasked with investigating ethics complaints against House members has no board members and can't act. With the attacks on independent oversight in the executive branch, Congress must not go down the same path. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...

The PEPPER Act would essentially grant immunity from state and federal prosecution for presidents and other executive branch officials. This bill is a dangerous step toward making the president a king. Congress must reject it. www.citizensforethics.org/legal-action...

Congress is a co-equal branch of government meant to serve as a check on the executive. Right now, the executive is attempting an egregious, lawless power grab. If there was ever a time for Congress to do its job, it’s right now. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/14/u...

At the same time that Donald Trump is bemoaning waste and fraud in the federal government, he’s actually having taxpayers pay his businesses through this travel, which makes him richer. www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

Late last year @greggnunziata.bsky.social and I wrote about our bipartisan agreement on the importance of FBI background checks before the Senate confirms nominees. The administration ditching these checks for White House officials is different, but evidences the same disregard for accountability.

This is important: a Trump-appointed federal judge acting with integrity and courage to push back on the Department of Justice's dangerous efforts to construe the pardons of January 6 participants far more broadly than the law allows. We need more of this. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/14/u...

DOGE appears to have responded to reporting about errors in their claims of savings by giving less information publicly, so that it’s harder to question them, without doing anything to suggest that they’re actually correcting the mistakes, or learning from them. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/13/u...

Donald Trump gutting the Justice Department's Public Integrity Section, which prosecutes corruption nationwide (and where I proudly worked years back), tells you where he is. He is for corruption and is undermining any federal efforts to combat it.

Donald Trump has long used the presidency to promote his own businesses. Now he's using it to promote the business of his friend and close advisor. It looks like both use of the government for self-enrichment, and a conflict of interest which could affect important government decisions.

NEW: A federal court found last night in @crew.bsky.social's case that DOGE is likely subject to the Freedom of Information Act and must produce requested documents to CREW. DOGE has been making decisions that deeply affect Americans, and this should add needed transparency and accountability.

We want the presidency to be the main focus of the president. That’s not to say presidents don’t have time to take a break like everybody else, but when you go to your own business property it moves the focus from your official duties to promoting and attending to your business.

If President Trump wants to cut spending, he can propose recissions to Congress under the Impoundment Control Act. But Trump has not done so. And until he does, he has no authority to unilaterally withhold funds.

President Trump has fired 18 inspectors general, who root out waste, fraud and abuse in the government. 7 of them speak out here about their work and why it matters so much: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

It's troubling that despite a pledge to disclose donors to the transition, the Trump administration has yet to do so. That means Americans have no insight into which people or companies may have tried to curry favor. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/06/u...

Is Donald Trump's priority applying for board game and NFT/metaverse trademarks or looking out for the financial wellbeing of everyday Americans? His actions over the last few weeks point to the former. www.citizensforethics.org/reports-inve...

Court orders are not optional. Good for these members of Congress for standing up for checks and balances as President Trump tests that foundational principle of our democracy. kevinmullin.house.gov/2025/03/05/a...

NEW from @crew.bsky.social: Donald Trump just applied for two new trademarks, which both creates a big conflict of interest as the head of the government that will decide on those trademarks and signals his intent to profit further from his position. www.citizensforethics.org/reports-inve...

Business leaders are reportedly paying millions of dollars to meet one-on-one with the president at his resort, from which he profits. So they're paying for the opportunity to influence our elected leader, and he is getting richer off of that. Not how democracy should work.

Has the Supreme Court rediscovered its ability to check a runaway executive and protect the law and our constitutional system? It remains to be seen, and I hope it's not too late, but this morning's decision is a good start. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

According to a new report by @publiccitizen.bsky.social, the Trump administration has already shut down at least 20 investigations and cases under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. That's the law that bans US citizens and entities from bribery of foreign officials. www.citizen.org/news/trump-g...

If the FAA is really looking to spend tens of millions on a new contract with Starlink, the American people need good answers about how the agency is avoiding any conflicts of interest related to Elon Musk's role at DOGE. The stakes are high. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Some good news from this past weekend: a federal judge blocked President Trump from ousting the leader of the Office of Special Counsel, an agency that protects whistle-blowers and guards against improper politicization of government (tall order these days). www.nytimes.com/2025/03/01/u...

That some within the Department of Justice are pushing to open clearly unsupported criminal investigations into political opponents is truly dangerous. It is a sign we are moving firmly into authoritarian territory. It's good that some at the Department are resisting, and I hope they continue to.

NEW from @crew.bsky.social: Marco Rubio is currently serving as Secretary of State, Acting Administrator of USAID, and Acting Archivist at NARA. This is uniquely troubling—we explain why: www.citizensforethics.org/news/analysi...

Removing the commemorative Congressional Gold Medal awarded to the law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol on January 6th from the Mint website is far from the most egregious erasure of the insurrection, but it is another sign of deep disrespect. www.huffpost.com/entry/jan-6-...

The FAA's consideration of a large contract for Elon Musk's Starlink creates a huge potential for a conflict of interest and the appearance of a conflict, even though we don't know what Musk's personal participation is. This is deeply troubling because it's so important to the safety of Americans.

The Trump administration has shut down the National Law Enforcement Accountability Database, which is a blow to accountability for officers who have committed misconduct, and also appears to violate federal records law. www.citizensforethics.org/legal-action...

NEW from @crew.bsky.social: If DOGE were serious about government efficiency, they wouldn't be working to shutter the CFPB, which returns more than $2 to consumers' pockets for every $1 the government spends running the agency. www.citizensforethics.org/news/analysi...

We urgently need new tools to address presidential misconduct during this lawless era. It's time for Congress to step up and act. @crew.bsky.social laid out five suggestions to ensure accountability: www.citizensforethics.org/reports-inve...

A Chinese crypto entrepreneur poured millions into Trump family-backed crypto, and then the SEC paused a case against him. Nope, nothing to see here. www.cnn.com/2025/02/28/b...

A month ago, Donald Trump issued a memecoin and made millions from it. Just now, the SEC changed its position to say that memecoins are not subject to regulatory oversight, which benefits Trump. Surely no possibility of a conflict or improper influence there...
