In the 1920s, Civil War veterans were about the age Vietnam veterans are today. It gets weirder. Most 1980s action heroes were Vietnam vets. Most 1880s action heroes were Civil War vets. The 1880s version created Westerns as a genre. "80s-style action" is now a recognized subgenre.
