I love this detail. During a building activity, both the non-autistic groups & the mixed groups had instances where someone didn’t participate, or someone built a separate tower, or they started over after already beginning. None of these things happened in the groups of all autistic participants

Delighted to share this new open access article which presents four amazing case studies showcasing coproduction methods in neurodevelopmental research Lots of people have published theory and there are some useful toolkits too, but its still rare to actually read what people did... rdcu.be/ebbgu

New studies on how rapport differs between autistic & non-autistic ppl suggest having other autistic interactants is more important for autistics' ease, enjoyment: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/..., & social-motor synchrony is more important for non-autistics: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

This is cool - in groups of 4, autistic people have less rapport as the number of other autistic people declines, while non-autistic people are less affected by group composition Project by @sarah-foster.bsky.social supervised by @noahsasson.bsky.social on a grant led by @cjcrompton.bsky.social

I'm excited to share my first registered report on social interactions in @journalautism.bsky.social! Our study explores how social motor synchrony – the natural mirroring of movements – impacts rapport between autistic, neurotypical, and mixed dyads. Thread 👇 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Excited to see our group rapport paper published in Autism: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/.... Thanks to those involved, N. Sasson, C. Crompton, S. Fletcher-Watson, D. Ropar, and others! We explored whether rapport varies across autistic, non-autistic, and mixed groups,

Our new paper led by @sarah-foster.bsky.social compares rapport between autistic groups, non-autistic groups, and mixed groups of autistic and non-autistic adults during a building activity. We found that the all-autistic groups… journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Social interactions cannot be assessed without (1) acknowledging the two-way process involved and (2) the cultural context the interactions are embedded in. We present new evidence for this, using stimuli like the one below, in our latest preprint: osf.io/xg7y4 🤝

Autism in Adulthood is now on BlueSky!!! We are excited to build a community here. Please follow us (and share with others). And of course, please continue to contribute to, review, and/or read our journal! www.liebertpub.org/aut.

I went on @npr.org's Morning Edition to talk about the dangers that Robert F Kennedy's nomination to lead the Department of Health and Human Services and what it means for #ActuallyAutistic people to have someone who believes vaccines cause autism lead the department. www.npr.org/2024/11/29/n...

Grateful to @autisticadvocacy.bsky.social for the gala's moment of silence to honor our beloved, empathetic @stevesilberman.bsky.social—who described writing NeuroTribes "as an expression of the traditional Jewish mission of tikkun olam—'to heal the broken world.'" www.lionsroar.com/neurotribes-...

A wee PSA for anyone wanting to use the Autism Research feed on here To start with, here’s the feed link: bsky.app/profile/did:...

Hi everyone! I'm trying to migrate my posting to these bluer skies. I'm Noah Sasson. I mostly post about autism and psychology, but sometimes veer into posting about some of my hobbies too (basketball, gaming, and music). Hoping the vibes here are a little less end-timesy.

What is neurodiversity? What does it mean for how we each go about our daily activities? We've written an article for young people, but hopefully a useful primer for all :) By @aalcorn.bsky.social, @katiecebula.bsky.social, @suereviews.bsky.social and me. kids.frontiersin.org/articles/10....

Hello! I do autism, neurodiversity, Qualitative (and sometimes quant) methods, and weird interdisciplinary stuff. I love giving talks. Currently on a postdoc at @ Cambridge. You can find my papers, datasets, talks archive etc. on my website: www.heasutherland.com

'it may (...) be equally important to educate others to be more aware and accepting of social presentation differences, rather than trying to change the many (...) factors of self-presentation that mark the expressions of individuals with ASD as atypical'(S. Sasson,2017). autidacts.org/en/pg-ref/883

For Bsky newbies: here's a helpful autism research starter pack #AutRes

Our new paper out today led by my graduate student Sarah Foster shows that facial expressivity differences in autism are related to less favorable first impressions formed by non-autistic people, particularly in a job interview context. www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/...

It was so nice to have the Diversity in Social Intelligence team together last week - from Edinburgh, Dallas, Nottingham, Essex & Glasgow!🌍 We spent some time planning our analyses & I'm really excited about the next few months! @noahsasson.bsky.social @themisefth.bsky.social @suereviews.bsky.social

Our new article - “I Don't Understand Their Sense of Belonging”: Exploring How Nonbinary Autistic Adults Experience Gender) - was just published in Autism in Adulthood! www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/... The article is behind a paywall, so we've added a preprint here: osf.io/preprints/os...

We have a new preprint, "Unpacking Ableist Language in Schools: Suggestions for School-based Practitioners". We want to help educators begin conversations about how ableism is pervasive in schools, and reflected in/perpetuated by the language they use osf.io/73ykq 1/n

We have a new paper about double empathy in autism led by @desirjones.bsky.social and Monique Botha! “Non-autistic observers both detect and demonstrate the double empathy problem when evaluating interactions between autistic and non-autistic adults” #AutRes #AutismResearch t.co/lV742ooicL

We're hiring for a T/TT position in Psychology! Focus is on social psych or related field, ideally in intergroup relations, stigma & bias, ethnic identity development, cultural psych, disparities, and/or social justice. Pls share! #psychology #psychjobs #socialpsyc jobs.utdallas.edu/postings/24848

captapnetwork.wordpress.com/2023/09/19/h... Hurrah. Our lovely guide to using kind and respectful language about autistic people is out. Feel free to share.

"Awkward but so what" may be the Best Autism Research Paper Intro Ever: "Autistic people, like non-autistic people, have preferences for similarity that drive social affiliation, and indicate that certain social descriptors like 'awkwardness' may not be universally viewed negatively by all people."

#AutRes

We have a new open-access paper out in Neurodiversity comparing how autistic and non-autistic adults view their own personalities and their personality preferences in other people. Descriptors like “awkward” are not socially undesirable for all people! t.co/Z78VWXP5Cn

Looky here! I made a feed for autism research: bsky.app/profile/did:... Post by including #AutRes or just use the words “autism research” Please follow and 🩵 Thanks @markrubin.bsky.social for the guidance. Please add this to your list!

In our newest open access paper, we discuss how ableism and bad science have gone hand in hand in autism research www.frontiersin.org/articles/10....

Parker Posey once ran towards me in Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia. I couldn’t understand what was happening and completely mesmerized. Was this a dream? But then she just bent down and pet my dog, all the while completely ignoring me. She skipped away and did a cartwheel.
