My psychiatrist told me to not seem too American while I’m abroad and I said I’ll try to refrain from announcing when I want a hot dog.

Apex Magazine Subscription Drive update: Things have definitely slowed down with the drive. We're currently at 157 new subscribers, which is fantastic, but its also very far from our 300 goal. If we do not hit 300 new subscribers, we will have to cut the size of each issue. All the details here:

By now you know we need to hit 300 subscribers to keep our current issue size for 2024. But we aren't the only magazine asking for support: Introducing Magazine Timeshares! Pay for your stay, whether it be for as short as a month or as long as a year apex-magazine.com/apex-blog/it... (thread)

"What I’m really listening for is a series of thuds, a muffled cry, a crash, something. You can hear them, the deaths. As they’re happening. Not all of the time, but sometimes. From different angles, around corners."

I don’t think Bluesky shows threads to people (or maybe everyone is just sick of my baloney?) but my rundown of the new Weird Horror stories is here

Here’s a story I wrote 4-5 years ago that a dream publication (@strangehorizons.bsky.social) was gracious enough to publish. I reread it for the first time in a while today, and for no reason other than I’m trying to “do the writing thing” again, I’m sharing it. strangehorizons.com/fiction/subl...

Over the next two weeks, Apex is doing a push for new subscribers. We need 300 new subscribers to be able to keep publishing issues at the size we currently are. If we don't get that, then beginning in January we have to cut back. Read all the nitty gritty here: apex-magazine.com/apex-blog/it...

Our cracking interview with @pauladashe.bsky.social is up! I got to chat with her about her fear of teeth, obsession with a historical sect of real life Cenobites, fucked up families, and her horrific short story collection WE ARE HERE TO HURT EACH OTHER, which just won a Shirley Jackson Award!

Not enough credit is given to Dystopia for making Eckhart Tolle sound like a psychopathic Bond villain

I need your sickest office chair recommendations

Real talk. We need 300 new subscribers (including renewals) to keep publishing issues at our current size. If we don't get hit that number we will need to scale back the magazine size. Help us keep our size (or increase it!) over the next two weeks! apex-magazine.com/apex-blog/it...

Helloooooo! First post to let y'all know I wrote a gross-ass, propulsive horror/crime novel called FEVER HOUSE! It's been out two weeks! I'd be thrilled if you checked it out and/or told your friends about it! Thank you! Exclamation point! www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/720703...

Forgot to say people in Boston are either super nice or despicably petty, miserable, embittered excuses for human beings

This in-progress series was inspired by an M. John Harrison post. It said "Pictures that invite a narrative but work better without one." and I thought it would make for a brilliant anti-worldbuilding visual approach of sorts.

Weird Horror mag opens Saturday for subs for 2 weeks. Please read the guidelines. Not to throw shade, but the last few queries I had were all addressed already in the guidelines. We're all tired, I know. You can read the mag free online to get a feel. undertowpublications.com/weird-horror...

Shadowfax keeps sending me these really dark, indecipherable faxes and I'm not sure if it's because of his name or because he's a horse.
