Also, many of the NIMBYs fighting this new hotel are the same people who have been loudly decrying the proliferation of Airbnbs in the Marigny in recent years. If you want fewer Airbnbs in the Marigny, this hotel is part of the solution! #nola

New Orleans has bad governance, lackluster services, crumbling infrastructure, high taxes, high insurance costs and is ground zero for climate change, so if people STILL want to invest millions here while creating dozens of jobs, we should let them. nola.com/news/busines... #nola

JUST IN: A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to resume hundreds of millions of dollars in payments for U.S. Agency for International Development projects.

#Louisiana's Surgeon General, who recently ended the state's mass vaccination program, is now suddenly recommending that people get the measles vaccine. We shouldn't let these clowns engage in political posturing that risks people's lives. #lalege #lagov

"An internal meeting...reveals ongoing confusion over inspection processes, a six-month backlog of permit approvals, and a lack of trust in third-party inspectors." Dysfunction at Safety & Permits threatens public safety and hurts our economy. fox8live.com/2025/02/22/n... #nola

Our parent organization - @cnliberalism.org - released a statement on the DOGE-initiated mass layoffs and urges Congress "to step up, reclaim their role in governance, and enact legislation that strengthens, rather than undermines, our public institutions."

“You can only build housing if you build it to extremely onerous and expensive environmental standards and also you can’t charge rents high enough to cover the cost of construction” is just NIMBYism in Birkenstocks and polar fleece.

Once again, "we should raise tariffs on all goods to insane levels" is one of Trump's only consistent econ policies, but everyone with basic knowledge knows that's a moronic idea, which leads to Trump staffers repeatedly sanewashing it, only for Trump to go "no I want the insane version"

This is why you hold town halls and call your reps.

If you live in a Blue State, the most important thing you can do individually for America is get on your city council and focus entirely on building more housing. Many people in Red States will find their lives untenable very soon and need somewhere to flee to.

U.S. Attorneys are not the President’s lawyers. They are the United States’ lawyers. You didn’t pledge an oath to a President, you pledged it to the constitution. This statement alone is reason enough to resign.

Ya know, this is pretty cool! www.wwltv.com/article/news...

First nuclear weapons management, now this. No one - Democrat or Republican - voted for this kind of incompetence.

Want to go visit the national parks this year? Sorry. The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

Coroner Dwight McKenna: "I didn't get enough attention after the terrorist attack." This might be one of the most tone-deaf sentiments ever expressed by a public official in this city. www.nola.com/news/new-orl... #nola

WTF

Oh yeah, what a great relationship Mayor Cantrell has with Jeff Landry - so great, in fact, that the Governor and his Attorney General just filed a lawsuit against the city. Is this what winning looks like? #nola www.nola.com/news/politic...

When you live a block from the parade route, it is important to establish boundaries.

If you hated inflation under Biden, you're really going to hate what's coming under Trump! Add to these higher prices the 10% sales tax that Jeff Landry backed so he could give tax cuts to corporations and #Louisiana is in for a world of pain. #lalege #nola #thanksjeff

NEW: States are handing multimillion-dollar contracts to a handful of fledgling private companies to manage the rapidly growing, convoluted marketplace of school-choice programs. The process has been bumpy. By @alecmac.bsky.social

🚨NEW PODCAST EPISODE🚨 One of the notable political shifts in 2024 was tech's jump to the right. Why did that happen? How did tech go from a bastion of progressive politics to a new base of support for Trump? Lakshya Jain joins @jeremiahdjohns.bsky.social to discuss. www.patreon.com/posts/member...

Suffering from cabin fever? Go take a walk to a local small business and treat yourself! They need the customers after being closed these past few days! #nola

If you're a New Orleanian without your own means of transportation, we hope you don't need groceries, have a doctor's appt, or have to show up for work, because our transit authority has no idea when they'll be up-and-running again. RTA is broken. We deserve better. #nola

Good advice! Stay off the roads!

🤔

Would be great if we didn't have to wait until after a successful communist revolution to build these people a home.

One of the most surreal days I've ever experienced in New Orleans. Only the Saints winning the Super Bowl and the stretch between August 2005 and late 2006 compare.

I think we've found The solution to New Orleans' sidewalk problem. This is an improvement, right? #nolasky #nolabluesky #sneaux

What a strange and glorious day

We hope everyone out there in New Orleans is safe and warm and partying like it's 1895.

🚨 Presidential Puerility Alert!!! 🚨 - Here's one of the ways we're committing to holding Trump accountable for his extreme tariff agenda... 👇 Stickers coming soon! #nola

lol Mayor Cantrell going to DC this weekend is fuckin priceless

While this is great news, apparently the only way you can get the city officials to hold joe Jaeger accountable for his derelict, rent-seeking properties is for Joe Jaeger to die first. #nola www.nola.com/news/busines...

It's awful that UNO is going to have to furlough hundreds of employees, but it's also unconscionable that the university has failed to collect millions of dollars that it's owed. Why are public agencies in this state so inept at managing their own affairs? www.nola.com/news/educati...

This might be controversial, but I think it's a good thing for Americans to realize that poorer nations than ours have far better infrastructure and public spaces than we do.

Actually, Sundiata Haley should have been fired months ago when he was publicly reprimanded for intentionally pushing an opposing lawyer (and a woman) into a wall in the hallway outside of courtroom. lawprofessors.typepad.com/legal_profes...

Yesterday's City Council meeting didn't provide a lot of answers about safety issues, but it did make it loud and clear that Oliver Thomas is a deeply unserious person who can barely run a meeting let alone this city. www.nola.com/news/lots-of...

By the way, you know who came this Sundiata Haley's defense? Rep. Troy Carter & State Rep. Delisha Boyd, who seem to put their support behind every shady/corrupt character in this city. Both endorsed the serial liar and spousal abuser Doc Jones for school board as well.

RTA should have fired Sundiata Haley years ago. A Lee Zurik investigation (bit.ly/404CnKK) raised questions about his behavior all the way back in 2012. As time has gone on, it's become clear that the RTA is troubled and needs a total overhaul. www.nola.com/news/new-orl...

Controversial, but I think we should be politicizing tragedy a lot more. In fact, preventing tragedies is probably a top 3 reason for even doing politics in the first place.

Thank you President Carter for your incredible leadership, legacy and life of service.

We are deeply saddened by this morning’s horrible attack on Bourbon Street. We are keeping the victims and their families in our thoughts and send our heartfelt thanks to the first responders who quickly acted to save lives.
