Here’s a pre-Artemis 1 test of NASA SLS’ Rocketdyne RS-25 engine. Coming directly from the era of the Space Shuttle, SLS used 4 of these bad boys for its first stage alongside 2 Northrop Grumman-produced solid rocket boosters! #space #science

Meanwhile HEO Space grabbed this on-orbit image of the Chinese spacestation using a BlackSky Inc. satellite distance of 83 km, with a resolution of 0.17 m/px. source: heospace on the other site.

Hello space people, apologies, another request. I'm looking for people that could comment on in-space manufacturing and the potential benefits for humanity. If that's you, or you know someone, do let me know. jdaoca[at]gmail[dot]com Thanks!

Here’s more detail on the $420 million NASA says it has cut in contracts and grants. Oh wait - there is little detail publicly available. spacenews.com/nasa-termina...

This is an incredible blunder and is the exact reason why you follow operational procedures when doing anything of substance in the government. Those rules were written with the tears of many sacrificed staffers.

Hi space people, I'm looking for non-NASA experts to comment on the MAV portion of Mars Sample Return, and why it's so challenging to take off from Mars. If that's you, or you know someone, do get in touch. jdaoca[at]gmail[dot]com Thanks!

Food banks around the country are in desperate need of support. They rely heavily on resources from the USDA and many rural food banks don’t have communities that can make up for the current losses. Donations of non-perishable food or money is good but please call your Reps

Thank you to @sciguyspace.bsky.social for putting words to the “ick” I’ve been feeling about the language around bringing the Starliner astronauts home. https://arstechnica.com/space/2025/03/can-nasa-remain-nonpartisan-when-basic-spaceflight-truths-are-shredded/

Please get involved in your local community organizations. They have an outsized impact on the things you interact with everyday and almost all organizations I’ve interacted with need volunteers

Getting rwally tired of headlines being written to normalize stupidity. The Sec Def is most decidedly not an expert on climate change but wording a headline like this makes it sound like this is a decision based on science or reason, not the political play that it actually is

Hello space people, I'm looking for experts to comment on the NASA cuts from a US/European perspective, and what this will mean for science moving forwards. If that's you, do let me know. jdaoca[at]gmail[dot]com Thanks

Liberal American media are not fact-checking Trump any more. They've given up. Here, WaPo writes an entire article about US & European aid to Ukraine. Not one line on the fact that Trump repeatedly uses egregiously fake numbers to justify his hostility. www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/0...

The misuse in recent weeks of Thucycides’ Melian Dialogue- the strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must- annoys me. The treatment of the Melians - murdered and enslaved - prompted small Greek city states to band together with Sparta and ultimately defeat Athens. That’s the lesson.

When a woman is empowered, the world is empowered.💜️ #InternationalWomensDay

Happy Twin Peaks day to those who celebrate 🍒☕🥧

The Planetary Society strongly opposes the sudden, indiscriminate dismissal of more than 1,000 scientists, engineers, and explorers at NASA — the largest involuntary workforce reduction since the end of the Apollo program. Read more on our stance. ⬇️

True story: when my older boys were little, they both got whooping cough even though they were vaccinated. It was bad. We asked the pediatrician what would’ve happened if they hadn’t been vaccinated. They would’ve died, he said. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

If you are in danger unless you comply with a regime, you are in danger whether you comply or not

Just to reiterate for those in the back: “DON’T STOP COMMUNITY ORGANIZING!”

Last call to volunteer for CVD! Applications close TOMORROW (31 January) at 11:59 pm ET. 👇

I would like to reboot the country in safe mode, please. Also, let's update all of our antivirus measures.

Here’s hoping folks don’t forget that every technology we need to colonize Mars is also needed for colonizing the Moon. The Moon has the amazing benefit of being only 3 DAYS away, not MONTHS if something goes wrong.

Have a plan, be prepared, and take care of one another

XKCD just reminded me of my hatred for gallons and oz as a unit of measurement. They are terrible and we should feel bad for continuing to use them.
