At my local library, a little girl dropped her library books into the ‘return’ slot, waved and shouted “GOODBYE BOOKS, HAVE A GOOD DAY AT SCHOOL!” and my heart grew three sizes 🥺

A day out on the water, and my annual go on a kneeboard.

Rushdie describes the knife attack while on stage, and the aftermath. A somewhat uneven memoir. Some parts ring authentically true; some not so much. That isn’t to deny his experience, more how it landed with this reader. #read2025

Snuck in a pre-dinner swim to cool off onl this 42C day.

This season’s crop of pears. Picked on a blisteringly hot Adelaide day.

The loudest voices rarely represent the majority. They're usually speaking for the extremes. You won't understand the views of a group until you've invited the quieter voices into the discussion. Don't mistake silence for disengagement. It's often a sign of deep reflection.

1000000000000066600000000000001 is a prime number…it is also a palindrome. It’s called ‘Belphegor's prime.’ ‘Belphegor’ refers to one of the Seven Princes of Hell (due to the ‘666’ in the middle & the 13 zeroes on either side). So that’s cute.

That’s Ent-ertainment.

“One American man toasted his fairy bread. “And Australians bit my head off,” he said.” Fair enough, too.

To keep fragile or small items protected, some of our material is stored in boxes like these. This tiny ‘Book of Nouns’ from 1800 may seem normal size on the shelf, but in reality it’s only 6cm tall! [C.C. 423 BOO]

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: At a country market: Two small humans (3 & 5?) are inspecting a flower press. The older glances over her shoulder at a nearby flowering shrub. The younger looks speculatively at her big sister. She asks: "Mum, can we put PEOPLE in there?" (1)

Fun* weather for camping and water skiing next weekend.

In #MathsToday (actually yesterday!) I needed to improve my year 7's explanations skills so after going through some good and bad examples we tried these questions. My challenge now is to maintain high expectations of quality explanations.

After a bit of work this afternoon, I found the bottom of my email inbox.

For those of you who knew Jon Borwein. I once told him as chair I’d tackle him to the ground if he went too long (he was a notorious talker). He took it as a challenge, which it would have been — for me!
