Getting Started

In these changing and uncertain times, it’s understandable if you feel a bit off balance. We want you to know that NOMADstudio is here for you, and that you are going to hear more from us this year.

Practice. Your unique creative expression is important. For you and for the world.

Founded in 2013 with a mission of “art for ALL,” NOMADstudio—the Neighborhood Oriented Mobile Art + Design Studio—engages people in acts of creative expression in places & spaces where there is often little or no access to arts programming.

Our longest running outreach initiative, Next Stop Studio, began in 2015 with a pop-up visit to a group children’s home. It soon expanded to include visits to places like domestic violence shelters, residential psychiatric treatment facilities, and homeless shelters for families with children.

In May 2018 we visited a regional juvenile detention center and learned that youth detained there had year-round school but the state of Florida doesn’t consider the arts an essential part of their education, so they go without. We launched Justice Studio as an after school program there that fall.

This is how it all got started, a group of like-minded artists loading an art bus up with supplies and rolling out—taking it to the streets to facilitate community bus painting experiences throughout our region.

In 2022, our Studio on the Block program was selected for inclusion in the University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine’s Arts and Creative Placemaking Repository as a “Promising Practices Case Study” to facilitate field-wide learning and encourage similar practices across the country.

At NOMADstudio we put creativity in motion to fuel connections and nurture communities. We do this by mobilizing artists, activating shared spaces, and celebrating creativity as an essential part of human wellbeing.
