The local Harris’s hawk family flew in to hunt recently. The neighbor’s chimney provides a good observation post. Southern Arizona . #birds #azbirds

On this day of pungent national shame when the United States became a vassal state of Russia, I wandered into a local park in my Arizona town where I had never been before and saw this heroes memorial. If only words could make those defending this wicked betrayal see themselves. #IstandwithZelensky

I hitchhiked from Alaska to Manitoba in the late 70’s. Two young French Canadian men gave me a ride through one of the prairie provinces. There was a language barrier—I chiefly remember “sacrement”—but it was a good ride, and I gave them each a Kennedy half dollar on parting. #standwithCanada

There is a book I keep upon my desk— A talisman, read long ago, whose spell Persists, like incense in a shadowed shrine, Wafted from out of wisdom’s holy cell. #poetry

More photos from the Harris’s hawk family hunt. A juvenile with mottled brown and white chest. An adult standing in a “Y” branch. An adult feasting on fresh prey, probably a cottontail, atop a saguaro, Sonoran desert. #birds #azbirds #arizona

Words from another time of high anxiety, Latin words in dactylic hexameters from 1898, but still in their way an eloquent record. llewelynmorgan.com/2025/01/19/t...

An interesting atmospheric day here in southeastern Arizona. It rained a bit for the first time in more than 80 days, and the mountains got some snow.

A picture of a cup of coffee being good, and another of a cat being bad. With a little imagination you can picture yourself in a cat cafe. #cats #coffee

From Omar Khayyam: If only there were occasion for repose If only this long road had an end And in the track of a hundred thousand years, from the heart of dust, Hope sprang again like greenness Heath-Stubbs and Avery translation. If you only know FitzGerald, it’s good to have this too. #poetry
