We’re the grassroots community effort to stop @Oregondot’s polluting, costly, dumb freeway expansions. Climate leaders don’t widen freeways ❌🛣️❌

We are slow walking into a massive disaster. Portland's housing shortage stands to get exponentially worse without significant reforms and initiative to build more housing. graph via slideshow to city ecdev committee www.portland.gov/sites/defaul... (h/t eagle eye @maccoinnich.bsky.social)

If Duffy is having a little infrastructure week and going after congestion pricing and high speed rail, the reconnecting communities programs can’t be far behind bsky.app/profile/numb...

credit where due

Always curious how ODOT’s press releases about how I-5 destroyed the Albina neighborhood omit which agency actually did the destroying

absolute crickets, other than an occasional "nothing to see here, we think we're still gonna get it" (based on nothing). we assume ODOT's plan is to ask Oregon to backfill the $450m RCN grant to build "phase 1", leaving the good cap components in a never-to-be-funded, someday later "phase 2" #orleg

ODOT is not yet on bluesky for us to cyberbully them, but on IG the agency is rolling out equitywashing PR for their proposed $1.9 billion freeway expansion, which would double I-5 and increase air pollution and traffic through the Albina n'hood #orleg #orpol www.instagram.com/p/DGOwq0bOnw5/

Love seeing NMF co-founder @chrissmith.us and Albina Vision Trust's Winta Yohannes among the many folks providing commentary on Portland's revival in this article in @bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

lol this thing is never getting built www.columbian.com/news/2025/fe...

Shoutout to @bfryback.bsky.social, testifying in opposition to a bill to widen Hwy 20 tonight. "if this bill passes, it will take funding that could be used in for other projects...including various statewide jurisdictional transfer projects." #orleg olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/mediapla...

"Eight years after Oregon lawmakers approved a multibillion-dollar transportation bill to fix roads and improve infrastructure, key projects remain unfinished, funding is running short and an audit has uncovered major financial missteps." #orleg www.statesmanjournal.com/story/news/p...

Cancel this project, or else this will suck $1b+ from any other transportation maintenance or safety project we need!

Will Oregon be forced to backfill the revoked commitment to widening lanes in the rose quarter? Will the legislature prioritize using the transpo package to maintain existing roads and bridges across the state, or scrap that to dump all the money in this one cursed polluting megaproject? #orleg

1) perhaps the most explicit that odot has stated they are pretty uncertain about the $400m from the federal “reconnecting communities” grant 2) lmao how is ODOT pretending they are still “on track” if they lose nearly half of the on-hand funding for Phase 1 of the RQ? katu.com/news/local/o...

Cheers to @anthonymacuk.bsky.social/KGW for the coverage of the multiple bills this session to advance passenger rail in Oregon. BUILD TRAINS NOT LANES

Today we honor one of the great civil rights heroes, Rosa Parks. While she is best known for her arrest that occurred on December 1st 1955 where she honorably stood up to segregationist policies in Alabama.

For #TransitEquityDay, we released a report with Labor Network for Sustainability called Working Families Ride the Bus. #Union members and workers from all over the country shared their experiences with the ways that transit—or lack or transit options—affects everything (1/)

Never forget, for many years #Uber insisted loudly that it would reduce traffic in cities. Instead, Uber drivers cruise without passengers 40% of the time. Uber and Lyft no longer claim they reduce traffic. They now admit they increase congestion. So much for “making cities better…” Via @wsj.com

TESTIMONY OPPORTUNITY: Want to see the Oregon Legislature invest in Trains, Not Lanes? Go leave a comment in support of HB 3231, a bill to expand passenger rail options, getting a hearing Tuesday in the Joint Committee on Transportation: #orleg #orpol olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2025R1/M...

The physical design of cities determines transit outcomes far more than transit planning @humantransit.bsky.social #HumanTransit

Oregon, which has been seeking federal investment to replace a major bridge on I5 — the main north-south freight route on the west coast — has one of the lowest birth rates in the nation. #orpol

24 Democratic senators voted for the new DOT secretary, who signed this, two days ago

The DCA crash is news because it was anomalous -- the system did not work as planned. Sadly, the reason we won't ever see traffic crashes covered in the same way is it is the system working exactly as designed. Maybe the biggest Q is why such a system is socially acceptable.

Today ODOT is presenting to the legislature about the various projects funded by HB 2017. Kind of wild how a highway expansion project's costs nearly doubled from $98m to $174m - and the first stated reason is essentially "uh we added bike lanes" #orleg olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2025R1/D...

Guy had been bad news for so long

spend that money on public transit! Driving is only the best option for the people in the car - for everyone else it is the worst

time and time and time again, the research shows spending billions to widen freeways is wasting money.

ODOT indicates that bulk of Federal funds for Rose Quarter and IBR could be impacted by Trump executive orders: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/about/pages/federal-funding-eo-pause.aspx

When people block apartments in their neighborhoods, these apartments often end up near freeways (like in the photos below) or in sprawling subdivisions very far from jobs and amenities. The need for housing doesn't go away because people are good at saying "not in my back yard."

ODOT has currently received only $30m of the $450 Reconnecting Communities grant for the Rose Quarter Freeway Expansion. Federal transportation funds are currently paused www.oregon.gov/odot/About/P...

Friday's a big day - NMF's first day in court! Last year, we filed an administrative complaint against @oregonmetro.bsky.social asserting Metro was cooking the books with traffic projections + out of accordance with state law demanding they reduce regional driving www.oregonlive.com/environment/...

ICYMI, Trump wasted no time bringing up Portland after he was inaugurated on Monday, describing our community as a place "where they kill people and destroy the city." Young Portlanders are organizing and taking a stand. Visit linktr.ee/sunrisepdx to get join the movement and get involved TODAY.

Wondering what the politically correct term for Dirty Diesel should be so as to not hurt the feelings of polluters

oregon's joint committee on transportation ended a 90 minute hearing on efforts to rescind the state's freight electrification commitment with the vice chair of the committee, a republican who owns a trucking company, saying she found advocates using the term Dirty Diesel to be "deeply offensive."

Nick's doing the lord's work liveposting Portland City Council's work session on Zenith, fyi:

“Indeed, New York City’s congestion pricing, which began this month, might already be one of the most effective climate policies ever enacted in the United States.” newrepublic.com/article/1903...

worth tracking what this means for the reconnecting communities program, especially considering the most recent RCN grants made last week
