A simple thing you can do to de-center US supremacy from your life: Seek out music from other countries.

My entire timeline is doom and gloom and heavy think pieces. Who should I be following / where should I be going for fun Bluesky? Artsy Bluesky? Real Housewives Bluesky?

Its so hard for people to even imagine different ways of doing business. Art makes that imagination possible... It creates the space where we can start to see different systems as entirely possible. #CultureFix

Anticapitalism is understanding that we can’t trust the same system that’s harming us to give us the solutions to the problems it has caused.

My newsletter just went out! mailchi.mp/d07e7f32ef38... Today, i talk about community-building tips, challenging power, how disability justice benefits everyone, and NAMM.

There's something especially attractive about people who are so secure in themselves and their work that they consistently choose authenticity and relationship-building over clout-chasing and name-dropping.

Some suggestions on how to respond when they say "do it for the exposure".

Folks ask me all the time about the secret to success in the music business, and honestly, letting go of perfectionism is a huge part of it. @bigsto.bsky.social and I talked about it on Office Hours not too long ago: m.youtube.com/watch?v=zgW7...

I cant wrap my head around men who swear they support women and are safe spaces… but will still work with folks who are known predators “because of the clout”.

Just saying this again: The funniest thing about "Gulf of America" is that the Americas include South, Central, and North America. So it's actually kind of a more inclusive name that still includes Mexico. Defeated the whole point of what he was trying to do 😂

We need more honesty in the music industry.

I had as second session with a client who is trying to switch careers. Today, she said, "It's only been two sessions, and it’s already gold.” Love when my clients are getting what they need from me. If you're curious about how i can help you, let's set up a no-pressure discovery call!

Anticapitalism tip of the day: Reject trends. They’re designed to get you to consume more and more and more while settling for poorly made things that make you look like everyone else.

I'm teaching a newsletter workshop in March. Early bird tickets are on sale now. If you want to avoid third party fees and pay directly, just DM me: inbox.eventbrite.com If you're trying to get off social media but are worried about your marketing, newsletters are part of the solution!

I've had several meetings this week where folks say "we can't do that" because they're afraid of the DEI repercussions. Makes it all the more necessary for us to do these kinds of programs. On Feb 27, i'm teaching an intro to disability justice workshop. Pay-what-you-can: djintro.eventbrite.com

Hello @norarahimian.bsky.social you always have a unique perspective that is so important! I appreciate you being here today #spiritchat

Traditionally, we think of leadership as loud, direct, and aggressive, but that’s rooted in patriarchal, white supremacist, colonialism. True leadership listens actively, shares power, creates spaces for everyone to participate, is responsive to the needs of the most marginalized. #spiritchat

There is a difference between helping, fixing, and serving, and that difference sits in how you approach power. This short article by Rachel Naomi Remen is a must-read. #spiritchat www.mentalhealthsf.org/wp-content/u...

Self-care is important, but many hide behind it to avoid the difficult work of owning their privilege and redistributing their power. Community care and service work isn’t always supposed to feel good because it’s not supposed to be about you and your ego. #spiritchat

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in

Men on dating apps will be in their 50s, still “unsure” if they want children 🙄

Community will save us. Community will save us. Community will save us. Community will save us. Community will save us. Community will save us. Community will save us. Community will save us.

As more and more DEI programs come under threat, all we have is each other. A pay what you can workshop. Share with a friend or register here: djintro.eventbrite.com

Reminder that dismantling or defunding the Department of Education means putting our communities, our schools, our kids, and their academic, social, and emotional success at risk. The Department of Education currently does the following (and so much more): 🧵/1

In dating app news, I asked a guy how he was challenging the patriarchy and he responded by asking me if I was “capable of being with a man” 🤦🏽‍♀️

Even in the worst times, people gathered, friendships sustained, and community prevailed. Don't let them make you think it's hopeless. We fight and we keep fighting, not just for ourselves but for each other.

If you want to do festivals and shows in the summer, now is the time to start planning.

The music business is all about relationships and collaborations. This might be 4 years old, but the info is still super relevant. Watch, and let me and @bigsto.bsky.social know what other questions we can answer for you in a future episode. #musicbusiness #networking m.youtube.com/watch?v=SMQB...

The community you seek is seeking you. #CultureFix

This only works if speakers are representative of their audiences. Most of the time, they’re not. So not only do they speak from a power and privilege that’s not relatable, their “advice” isn’t realistic or applicable.

“It’s not underrepresented. It is systemically excluded. It is institutionally oppressed. Accountability starts with language.” - @norarahimian.bsky.social
