I've finished Hellbound, both seasons in fact! Season 1 was really solid and had a lot of surprises. Season 2 was pretty good too with its own moments. Ending was solid despite not having everything answered but if it doesn't get a Season 3 (to end it completely), then I'm happy with what we got.

I started watching Hellbound on Netflix (K-Drama by Yeon Sang-ho, the director of Train to Busan & The King of Pigs). First episode was slow but boy it picks up fast with the second episode onwards. Someone made the comparison of Devilman Crybaby and I can see that.

Finished Steins;Gate Elite yesterday. The story's still great to read through, but I will say the anime scene replacement idea wasn't executed well. There's various shots that don't look great due to the animation, and there's a ton of banding on screen which ruins the experience.

Also arriving yesterday are two brand new Category III Hong Kong releases from @88films.bsky.social with the Erotic Ghost Story Trilogy box set and Michael Mak's Sex and Zen limited edition Blu-rays. #PhysicalMedia #AsianCinema #Bluray

As mentioned, I picked up a few more 4K Ultra HD films and they arrived from HMV yesterday. We have Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse from Arrow Video, Michael Mann's Collateral from Paramount, and David Lynch's Mulholland Drive from Studio Canal. #PhysicalMedia #4KUltraHD

Yesterday I received two more Crunchyroll UK releases since there was another small discounted sale. Only focused on two fantasy titles - Berserk Golden Age Arc: Memorial Edition and Goblin Slayer II. #Anime #PhysicalMedia #Berserk #GoblinSlayer

Also arrived on Monday is my MediaOCD haul featuring @animeigo.com's Bubblegum Crisis and Bubblegum Crash! on Blu-ray, plus a Bubblegum Priss T-Shirt. #Anime #PhysicalMedia #RetroAnime #Bluray

Time to go over what I've received in recent days! On Monday my @terracottadist.bsky.social package arrived with Arrow & Eureka's new Blu-ray releases. Kazuo Mori's A Certain Killer & A Killer's Key, Jamie Luk Kin-ming's Doctor Vampire, & Kinji Fukasaku's Legend of the Eight Samurai #PhysicalMedia

I read that The Lighthouse release by Arrow was going out of print or at least becoming hard to find. I liked that film and thankfully have one shipped out. Also bundled two more films for the 4K collection.

Next game I'm going through in the backlog is Steins;Gate Elite, a remake of the original visual novel that uses anime cutscenes instead. I have played the original VN via the PlayStation 3 version and also seen the anime, this is more of a nice refresh to the game's story as it's been a long while.

I finished the Punch Line visual novel game yesterday. 19 hours reading/watching the game's take on the anime. It's been a long time since I watched the anime and overall I thought it was decent. Would I recommend it over the anime? Dunno, but if its cheap then feel free to check it out.

Almost finished the Punch Line game. The pacing speeds up when you reach Episode 13 as it becomes more linear from that point. So far it is pretty much re-treading the anime beat to beat though it's been a while since I've watched it so there may have been extended scenes here and there.

Recently @88films.bsky.social started a warehouse sale and I picked up three more Shaw Brothers releases on Blu-ray! Li Han-Hsiang's 1973 film Facets of Love (北地胭脂), Hsu Hsia's 1982 film Kid From Kwang Tung (廣東靚仔玉) & Sun Chung's 1979 film The Kung Fu Instructor (教頭). #PhysicalMedia #AsianCinema

New #manga pickups! We have 2.5 Dimensional Seduction Volumes 7-12 as well as The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You Volumes 7-12 from publisher Seven Seas via their Ghost Ship label. #PhysicalMedia #Anime

So far I've finished 8 episodes of PUNCH LINE, the visual novel. It's been following the anime so far. I like how you stare at the girl's underwear, the world blows up and your ghost cat companion's like "you idiot you killed everyone, start over now".

Also in town I picked up one of the rarest and expensive localised PS3 games available - Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2 via CeX. I had vouchers from last year which I used to make it more affordable. Only found out they had one in my local store last night and the staff got it recently.

After my cinema trip I went to town and picked up two more films for the 4K Ultra HD collection. In HMV's 2 for £30 deal I went for Renny Harlin's 1993 film Cliffhanger and David Lynch's 1980 film The Elephant Man. #PhysicalMedia #4KUltraHD #DavidLynch #HMV

So I watched the new Captain America: Brave New World at the local IMAX screening today. It's a decent film, I liked Mackie's character and his sidekick, but the overall film was pretty much wanting to be a Hulk film but had to use another superhero to make it happen. Story itself was decent tho.

The recent State of Play had some pretty interesting games shown off. Obviously looking forward to Onimusha but the Chinese games Lost Soul Aside & Tides of Annihilation each looked fun to play. METAL EDEN (from RUINER devs) looks great too.

Also arrived today from @terracottadist.bsky.social are three more films for the Director's Company line-up from @thirdwindowfilms.com! Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Bumpkin Soup, Toshiharu Ikeda's Mermaid Legend & Scent of a Spell! #PhysicalMedia #AsianCinema #Bluray #JapaneseCinema

And arriving today from @thegamecollection.bsky.social we have NIS America's Deluxe Edition release for The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II on PlayStation 5. #PhysicalMedia #PS5 #Falcom #TrailsThroughDaybreak

On Monday, Dragon Fist (龙拳) from Lo Wei starring Jackie Chan arrived from @88films.bsky.social store. This is their Store Exclusive variation of the 4K Ultra HD Deluxe Limited Edition. #PhysicalMedia #JackieChan #AsianCinema #4KUltraHD

Last Friday, the Discotek Media haul arrived! Six anime shows on Blu-ray, and four Nihon Nights live-action Japanese films also on Blu-ray. #PhysicalMedia #Anime #Bluray #DiscotekMedia

Starting off with last Thursday's arrival from @vgp-videogamesplus.bsky.social we have Freedom Wars Remastered and Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Plus, both for the PlayStation 5. I do own Freedom Wars on Vita but never got around to playing it, so here we are with the remaster!

Time to go through what's recently arrived over the past week. I held off posting them due to last minute arrivals today, but sadly one of them arrived very late in the day (and it's part of an order that had split up across three different days) so that'll be shown later.

Pickup updates! My latest Discotek Media haul has arrived yesterday, but I've been working this weekend so photos will appear sometime early next week (to recap it's 6 anime + 4 Nihon Nights releases). I also ordered some more incoming Asian Cinema titles including 88 Films' Dragon Fist 4K UHD.

"So I suppose you think this is funny, do you?"

Work may have gotten in my way, but I managed to finish the Alan Wake II expansions Night Springs and The Lake House these past two days. Both were great for different reasons; one capturing the campy feel of the first Alan Wake, whilst the other keeps the survival horror theme.

Not 100% done yet but I have finished the story for Alan Wake II with the Platinum trophy! This was an absolute blast to play. It's tense in parts but the story and characters, plus the various references/homages made the experience really fun and entertaining. 24 Hours Playtime on Normal mode.

Here's all of the items that I picked up/received for the month of January 2025. Notable inclusions are Cure, Dynasty Warriors Origin, Seven Samurai, Triggerheart Exelica and more. Link: wp.me/pajoBm-cMe #Anime #PhysicalMedia #AsianCinema #VideoGames
