So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

SEC is talking settlement with Justin Sun, the Chinese-tied crypto guy who has dumped millions into Trump's crypto in the last six months. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

In the last election, one candidate was proposing coercive restrictions on personal liberty and replacing free trade and free markets with heavy tariffs and authoritarian favoritism. The other was Kamala Harris. Bezos personally killed an endorsement of Harris and celebrated at Trump’s inauguration.

Note here that Musk is now literally assigning himself new contracts based on the use of his DOGE wrecking crew and the associated micro-bros. this isn't a "conflict of interest". it's just handing yourself federal money www.cnn.com/2025/02/25/b...

We have actual laws regulating citizenship requirements.

this action has already murdered ~14,000 adults and ~1,500 children pepfar.impactcounter.com bsky.app/profile/bran...

Love this from Denmark

Considering that Musk routinely shares the personal data, addresses, etc. of people who make him mad and sics his degenerate legions on those enemies, is it any wonder people don't want him to have access to all their banking, social security, medical info?

When asked what happened to the town’s money, the mayor said, “The traveling salesman who sold us the monorail is working very hard. I have seen the big machines myself and they are currently digging a very large hole. I am sure everyone will be very impressed when the project is finished.”

When OMB head Russ Vought talks about deliberate efforts to put federal employees "in trauma" and make them quit their jobs, he's talking about people like Michelle, recently fired by Musk/Trump. www.sfgate.com/california/a...

Much of the Black middle class was built by federal jobs. That may change. www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/... via @nbcnews

Republicans are holding back our own tax money from us to extort policy changes that Californians voted against. Treating us like conquered territory to be looted www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

btw, i will tell you this - i have been talking to people all day, and the media is missing, whether intentionally or not, how absolutely, volcanically angry the people who have been fired are, not because they lost their jobs, but because their jobs matter, *to us*

Yes, it is entirely correct to point out that ICE officers do not have any legal authority to break into somebody’s home unless they get a judicial warrant; which they generally cannot do, because judges only issue warrants for probable cause of crimes, not immigration law violations.

The USPS is so, so much better and less expensive than basically any other.

by the way these are literally the exact same dumbass motherfuckers, not like them, the literal exact same fucking guys, saying government is inefficient and you should cancel it to give them all the governments money so they can provide you services instead

That headline sent me into a doom spiral—how hard would it be include “illegally”? Or even “threatens” in lieu of “expected”?? JFC Wapo.

Good

Big crowd at the SF Tesla dealership protesting our unelected overlord. A tiny sign hangs from an upstairs window

In 2024, the NLRB filed a complaint against Tesla for interfering in a union drive at their Buffalo, NY assembly plant. Today:

What’s happening with the US government reminds me of this story (great book btw): Libertarians took over a town in NH in 2004 and gutted its services, cut taxes, etc. Less than 8 yrs later things had gotten so bad that black bears were breaking into homes and killing people for the first time ever.

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

I've read most of the analyses of the DOGE 2025 "receipts" site. This, from NPR, is the best I've read so far. Some of what they claim to have cut haven't been cut, other "cuts" will incur costs down the road. NPR says DOGE has made $2B of cuts, not $55B. www.npr.org/2025/02/19/n...

It’s not a “savings” if you’re getting fewer services in exchange. I’m still paying the same taxes!

I mean, let’s be clear about this. US Citizenship and Immigration Services has faced cuts. USCIS is funded by immigration application fees. It specifically is not supposed to cost the taxpayer ANYTHING. & that money can’t be spent elsewhere. This isn’t an efficiency calculation!

Friday SCOOP: @vox.com has learned that USFWS has frozen its vast portfolio of international conservation grants. This is far beyond the scope of USAID-funded work and will inevitably harm wildlife internationally and in the US. @benjij.bsky.social has the story: www.vox.com/down-to-eart...

Elon Musk is involved in government because he is bad at business. He is removing these consumer safeguards because otherwise his terrible businesses will never have a shot at bringing products to market.

A reminder: 1. Elon Musk's wealth is mostly in Tesla stock 2. Tesla is successful because at a key moment in 2009 the federal government gave it a $465 million loan so it could make sedans 3. Musk is now firing thousands of government workers and slashing every service ordinary people depend on

When the dismantlists talk about "trimming the fat" or "bloated" whatever relating to the federal government, remind them that there have been about the same number of federal employees since the 1960s. Meanwhile US population has increased by ~70% and GDP has increased 29-fold.

Over at EPA, new administrator Lee Zeldin is trying to "claw back" $20 billion that the agency has already dispersed. In other words, the government gave the money to private parties, and now it's going to steal the money back. It is straightforwardly illegal.

Unreal. The US government is dumping Asian and African families and children in random countries that they have no connection to. Dumping, not "deporting." Deportation implies the return of a person to their home country. This is treating people like toxic waste. www.cbsnews.com/news/us-depo...

Pretty telling that the comparison here is “someone scolding you via a video you saw on Facebook that you found annoying” and “complete disregard for legal protections and long standing peaceful cooperation between nations”. It’s actually pretty accurate to how conservatives view the world
