East coast. Looking south Under a blind sky: Moonless and starless. Only the call of male tawny owl Rings out across the haunted marshes. The fishing boats get ready to leave. #night #naturewriting

A shock of pink on a grey February morning. Herb Robert, bachelor's buttons, gypsy flower, jacket by the hedge, Robin's flower, round robin, granny thread the needle, poor Jane, wren flower. A friend with so many names. #wildflowers #naturewriting

This... As perfect a piece of writing as I have read in a long while.

This time last year I was saying goodbye to Dad. It was difficult. How do you say goodbye for the last time? I recorded this as I tried to work out how I could answer that impossible question. #podcast #mentalhealth #wellbeing #grief #bereavement #dying #love www.noswpod.com/walking-home/

The companionship of rooks. Lowering late February sun. Returning to the roost in pairs Under salmon pink clouds. Energy stills, silence falls. But what are they thinking? What do they feel, Watching the sun dip lower? Can I too share this Moment of rooky zazen And know the beauty of This moment?

Last evening, as twilight was deepening, a large flock of jackdaws took to the wing to fly back to their roost, as they always do. They climbed treetop height, a ragged-winged cauldron of sound and movement. Then, formed a chaotic wheeling murmuration, circling around me, head height. Wonderful!

Hesitant fingers of ice Stretch across the water In sharp angular shards. A duck noisily lands In clear water and Merges where the night Has not yet left the bankside. First morning of clear skies For what seems an age. Looking East. #ukcanals #winter #frost #naturewriting

A winter’s night on the canal, starless and wind gnawed. A snug cabin with a warm stove. A hot drink in a favourite mug (and a biscuit or two). It’s the perfect night to curl up and listen to accounts about life on the canals in winters past. #ukcanals #podcast #cosy www.noswpod.com/winter-readi...

Each week Vanessa and Zephyr bring the world back into true perspective. In these days, this is invaluable. #ukcanals #naturewriting #wellbeing

"We do not belong to those who have ideas only among books, when stimulated by books. It is our habit to think outdoors - walking, leaping, climbing, dancing, preferably on lonely mountains or near the sea where even the trails become thoughtful.' Friedrich Nietzsche (The Gay Science) 🌍

'Go and live on the canals,' they said, 'You'll love it.' 'You'll be living so close to great outdoors,' they said, 'Living alongside nature, close to the elements.' 'It's the perfect sort of life for you,' they said. And do you know what? They were ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! 😀 #ukcanals #naturewriting 🌍

A leaden sky and a watery palette of wind whipped greys mute with ominous prophecy. Day sharpened with the hard, dull bitterness of a cold wind. The tide throbbing a long restless rhythm. And rain. All day. Rain, rain, rain.

A Poem to the Sun: You came to visit days ago, And made the dust and cobwebs glow, Your presence lifted up the light, And got me dusting ( rare a sight) But since the ceiling’s cobweb free, You’ve not come back to visit me! Instead the boat is full of grey The colour that I swept away. 🤭

A greasy, chalk cliff Of a sky, unscaleable And weeping. Fingers burn At the water point. Rain drops pearl On my jumper. High in an alder, The song of a thrush Peals in triples Where autumn leaves fell. 🌍 #naturewriting #ukcanals #winter #thrush

Gather around the stove tonight on a bitter night of sleety squalls, as we celebrate the joy of a warm hearth and acknowledge three stars that light our paths through the night. 🌍 #ukcanals #naturewriting #cosyradio #wellbeing #night #podcast www.noswpod.com/Orion-still-...
