Last night I wrote a song for the first time in 8 years 🎶 😊

Currently 45.9% of pupils in Edinburgh are recorded as having additional support needs. At what point do we just need to entirely rethink our education system?

Getting all packed up for the Scottish Vineyard Worship Gathering!

“Hey - does anyone have any slides I can adapt for the MRCPsych CAMHS anxiety disorders tutorial?” “Err - you did it last year Naomi. Here are your slides”.

Remember the supermarket game? Played it with my 6yo this morning but with compliments. So fun to hear her say, “I am amazing, beautiful, caring, determined…” etc

I’m on call this weekend and I have a sore throat. Not ill enough to call in sick, but there is a non-zero chance that I’ll lose my voice and have to answer the phone with some husky wheezing sound….

I spent all afternoon and half the evening trying to get my head around the Riddell formula for monitoring, and am no further forward.

“I see no color” is not the goal. “I see your color and I honor you. I value your input. I will be educated about your lived experiences. I will work against the racism that harms you. You are beautiful. Tell me how to do better.” ... That’s the goal.

“Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. It would help you to have a personal insight into the secrets of the human soul. Otherwise everything remains a clever intellectual trick consisting of empty words leading to empty talk.” — Carl Jung

There are days where you question everything you do as a parent. And then there are days where your 6 year old says, “Mummy, I accidentally spilled some milk. Which cloth shall I clean it up with?”

Helping out with the Y4 undergrad psychological aspects of medicine and ethics day. Fascinating talk about the representation of mental illness in film - what are the best and worst depictions you have seen?

Dilemma: we have no budget for our national academic CAMHS programme. Most speakers are NHS and have some teaching in their job plans. But we are (rightly) encouraged to invite experts through experience. Which means that everyone in the room is being paid, except them. This is wrong!

Great day today at the Scotland CAMHS NAP looking at complex trauma and refugee health. So thankful to all our speakers!

I was speaking with colleagues today about another medical department who many of them have experienced as toxic. It got me thinking - how do teams get this way?

IMPORTANT - We built EveryDoctor as a doctor-led organisation specifically so that we could avoid being accused of "ideology" when we hold politicians to account. We are doctors, and we base our fundamental aims in science and evidence. We were deeply disappointed to see Labour announce yesterday..

One of my “hello’s” for 2024 (resolution alternative) was to embrace inconsistency for things that were “worth doing badly”. This led to me completing Couch to 5K for the first time, improving my diet, and dropping a dress size. Embrace small steps.

Are you based in London? We are recruiting participants for our study. We need to test 400 people so would appreciate sharing. Thank you!

Waiters - please check before answering my allergy questions. Coming back to say that you’ve now checked the packet and actually my 3 yr old can’t have the ice cream you said was fine is not ok…

Timely. "The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward to something greater to come". --Dietrich Bonhoeffer ⚓

The current vacancy rate of CAMHs consultant psychiatry posts in Scotland is about 25%. Our 8 person OOH rota is staffed by 5.7 FTE doctors. I know several excellent local trainees looking to start higher training in August. Yet there will likely be no training posts available to them. 🤯

"What makes the temptation of power so seemingly irresistible? Maybe it is that power offers an easy substitute for the hard task of love. It seems easier to be God than to love God, easier to control people than to love people, easier to own life than to love life." - Henri Nouwen

Does anyone know how to change the settings in Refworks so it includes more than 3 authors before “et al”?

Currently formatting references for a potential publication. The only thing that is preventing me losing the will to live is the variety of wonderful names amongst my references.

My dear friend was talking about a difference between western & eastern Christianity that was so profound to me, she said “Western focuses on having the right answer on the ready, Eastern focuses on the journey getting to the answers” Me thinks we westerners have something to learn from the East

"...if the practice of naming the sins that shaped us and the sins we’ve participated in and benefited from... makes us feel bad, and those bad feelings are enough to prevent us from facing them head on… can we really claim to have encountered the gospel?" @pastortrey05.com

In reading through the book of Acts recently, I noticed how frequently evil powers are connected with those using their wealth to deceive, manipulate or control others. Just saying.

🚨 BREAKING: Over 1 in 3 kids in the UK are now living in poverty—the highest rate this century. Nearly 1 in 4 people are in #poverty as deprivation soars to record levels. Child poverty = lifelong ↑ risk of ill health, physical and mental. We need an uplifting, fair social security system now.

Several years ago I was teaching a seminar. I asked a question with the goal of highlighting a common misconception, but in reality I set my learners up to fail. I don’t ask those kinds of questions any more, in fact, simple “testing knowledge” Qs are some of my least used.

“Most people feel left behind in some way - no matter what their life is like.” Oof, I felt that.
