Reminder: Free speech includes the right to teach and talk about Palestinian studies. This move by the Governor rings loud alarm bells of viewpoint discrimination — and sets a dangerous precedent for her to shut down speech or academic inquiry she doesn’t agree with.

Native Americans born in the United States are U.S. citizens, and ICE cannot arrest them for immigration violations or deport them.

"I’m scared to sleep, worried that ICE will knock on my door and take my husband." For families in mixed status households, the thought of having their family torn apart is devastating.

When our rights are under attack, what do we do? Well, if you’re a New York lawmaker, the answer so far is: not much. Along with 120+ orgs, we’re calling on state leaders to fight back against the cruel, anti-democracy Trump regime with everything they’ve got. Add your name 👇

Corrections officers are on Day 10 of their work stoppage. So far, it's impeded incarcerated people's access to water, food, and medicine - plus mail. Those inside prison are cut off from legal correspondence and messages from loved ones. But DOCCS’s history of censorship is unfortunately not new.

URGENT: Have you seen bold leadership from Albany in response to the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants, trans people, free speech, and more? Neither have we. Please call your representatives to inquire about #WhereIsAlbany? nyclu.org/nyfightback

No one should live with fear of being separated from their community. If passed, the New York for All Act will protect immigrant NYers by ensuring state funds can't be used for federal deportation efforts. 🤳Tell your rep to support #NY4All ➡️win.newmode.net/ny4all 🎨: @mollycrabapple.bsky.social

The NYCLU (New York Civil Liberties Union Foundation) seeks a Bilingual Organizer (Spanish) – Suffolk County Regional Office, Field Organizing Department to be based in Centereach, NY. Details can be found at: unionjobs.com/listing.php?... #1u #UnionStrong @nyclu.org @aclu.org

The HALT Solitary Confinement Act is still the law of the land. DOCCS is not above the law.

Is this why prosecutors want discovery rollbacks included in the budget? So they can share evidence with filmmakers and politicians before the defense gets to see it?

"The largest deportation campaign in American history cannot be achieved by the federal government alone." That's why it's imperative that we pass #NewYorkForAll NOW, to ensure that local law enforcement cannot collude with ICE to separate families and hurt our communities:

“The staggering payout totals for 2024 prove that the city would rather spend tens of millions in taxpayer dollars each year than take decisive action to dismantle the culture of impunity within the NYPD.” Amanda Jack, Policy Director gothamist.com/news/nyc-pai...

Freedom of the press is critical to our democracy. The government cannot punish and push out outlets for coverage they don't like.

New York City is home to the second-largest Haitian population in the U.S. This is yet another act of cruelty towards immigrants from the Trump administration.

Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Washington Heights 60 years ago. But another key location in his story remains unmarked and largely forgotten: a modest brick house in East Elmhurst, Queens, where Malcolm X lived with his wife and daughters in the final years of his life.

On Monday, Congress will vote on H.R. 32. This bill would blackmail sanctuary cities and states into carrying out Trump's mass deportations or risk losing funding for schools, hospitals, and housing. Tell your representatives to vote NO on the Defund Our Communities Act:

NEW: Since the state banned abortion, the rate of sepsis and deaths during childbirth have skyrocketed in Texas. 🗣️ Abortion is essential medical care. Banning it is killing Texans.

"Limiting discovery won’t curb recidivism. It will only increase wrongful convictions." Must read op-ed from Derrick Hamilton about proposed rollbacks to New York's evidence-sharing laws that would erode due process and drive wrongful convictions. www.timesunion.com/opinion/arti...

This is an extremely disturbing development from DOCCS. Solitary confinement is torture, and the suspension of the HALT Act will inflict profound, irreversible harm on incarcerated New Yorkers, who are disproportionally Black and Brown.

The government cannot stop you from informing others about their legal rights. Know your rights when educating your community.

The strikes from corrections officers endanger incarcerated people by threatening their access to water, food, and medicine. This comes as the culture of violence and dehumanization in New York State prisons is under renewed scrutiny after the brutal murder of Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional.

We took the Rochester Police Dept to court over their failure to disclose police officer misconduct records - and won. In a landmark ruling from the New York Court of Appeals, the highest court in NY, Rochester must now disclose ALL records related to police discipline and misconduct allegations.

We need a mayor who will fight for all New Yorkers. Instead, we’re stuck with a compromised Mayor Adams who has turned his back on the city in order to collude with Trump's anti-immigrant deportation agenda. NYC needs a leader who upholds our values and our laws - not one who answers to Trump.

🚨 Has the president and his goons made you worried you could be punished for telling someone they have legal rights? Well, fret not, you have rights and @aclu.org is here to make sure you know them. www.aclu.org/know-your-ri...

This bill directly contradicts the First Amendment and is an affront to free speech.

Anti-abortion states + Trump’s federal government are hellbent on eliminating abortion care. The NY Health Information Privacy Act "ensures that NYers – not big tech companies, bad actors, or government entities – have control over our intimate health information," - NYCLU's @dlnyclu.bsky.social.

📣 An upstate NY school district is under pressure from Moms for Liberty to remove several books from its library shelves for “cultural and political” reasons. This is wrong. Extremist groups have no right to trample on our free speech. Students have a right to read and learn free from censorship.

This reported plan is extremely concerning. People on parole and supervised release have the right to travel without fear that they are going to be harassed, searched, and followed by parole officers. They should be welcomed back into society, not made to feel like second-class citizens.

Sam Nordquist should still be alive today. This horrific, heartbreaking killing comes at a time of heightened nationwide attacks against trans people led by a federal administration hellbent on erasing trans existence. Black trans lives matter. Trans people will not be erased. bit.ly/41i55th

In today’s world, no one receives, provides, or helps others access health care without leaving a digital trail. New Yorkers often think this info is protected, but the scary truth is it’s not. The New York Health Information Privacy Act will change that:

Marsha P. Johnson would like a word.

🧵 NEW: Today Mayor Adams conceded to Trump + his Border Czar, announcing he will allow ICE on Rikers Island. The Mayor has turned his back on NYers for Trump + his own self-interest. Allowing ICE on Rikers serves no legitimate purpose + opens the door to violating our sanctuary laws.

Good. It's no secret that anti-abortion extremists are hell bent on expanding their hateful agenda and eliminating access to abortion care for people across the country. Today, the Governor made clear, as our shield laws do, that we will not tolerate it here in New York.

You have the right to film ICE, regardless of your immigration status or whether you know the person being arrested. ---- Tienes el derecho de filmar las actividades de ICE, independientemente de tu situación migratoria o de si conoces o no a la persona que está siendo detenida.

"Molly Biklen, the interim legal director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, questioned the merits of the case. The filing, she said, was 'a gross intrusion into New York’s constitutional right to legislate in areas traditionally within its concern.'”

1/ Tonight, the Trump admin announced it is suing New York and state officials over New York immigration law, like our Green Light Law. This is yet another attempt by Trump to weaponize the DOJ to intimidate those he disagrees with.

The First Amendment protects your right to criticize the government, including agencies like ICE, online. Full stop.

The Trump administration is 0 for 3 in court defending the President's attempt to end birthright citizenship. The Constitution is clear: People born in the United States are U.S. citizens.

🚨 A new expert analysis has revealed a more pervasive lead-in-drinking-water crisis than Syracuse officials previously claimed. There is no such thing as a safe level of lead exposure. Syracuse has one of the worst lead poisoning crises in the country, with an outsized impact on Black residents.
