Today at the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam

Yesterday at Micropia in Amsterdam. Really good exhibition, and a science technician talk

Back in Amsterdam having pub grub with Jamie after a day at the Speelklock museum in Utrecht

A bit of history, me with Mark van Setten, Mary Black and Petra Meckenstock. I've known them all for 30 years. At today's concert Mary dedicated her song Columbus to Mark and his partner Leon to celebrate 30 years together. I was in tears! We were all so young!

Wandering round Utrecht with Jamie earlier today

At the Sea Salt Saloon in Utrecht, Jamie was singing Fish Heads Fish Heads Eat Them Up Yum. Look at the teeth on that Dorade! I had Turbot, preceeded by shared cickles and razor class.

Walking back to the hotelboot with Jamie, we saw some lovely lights over the canal. Then Jamie said "Look at those moon beams!" She was thoroughly convinced. They are impressive. But that's not the moon, and she's not drunk nor on anything special 🤣

In Amsterdam with Jamie. Old favourites, Titus Parilla on Rembrantsplein, and Hotelboot Angeline, also last night at the Clayton Hotel by Manchester Airport. Off to Utrecht tomorrow!

Happy 5th Anniversary weekend to my beautiful Leona. Here's us five years ago, having danced ourselves out at The Cavern, Exeter. @leonadevon.bsky.social

I was going to start work on an illustration this weekend, but I left the printouts I was going to transfer at work (I'd enlarged them to A3). So, instead, I painted this, Lulworth Cove. I'm slowly getting used to the watercolours, though I regret making the sea quite so purplish.

Recent research in Lancet Microbe demonstrates that vaping is over 85% more effective at transmitting viruses than respiratory droplets. The aerosol's unique properties prolong pathogen viability, enhancing spread over greater distances, posing a significant epidemic threat.

It's a learning experience with these watercolours. The watercolour ground made the paper beautiful to paint on. But I think contrast fails this image. I put in the stonework before going to the darker bridge, and suddenly, everything seemed so much less contrasting. Needs more planning next time.

Is it wrong? They were giving away stock at FanBoy3, so I took all the £25 Warhammer Games Master Screens. I'd never GM anything, but they're nice three-fold boards. If properly gessoed and watercolour grounded, they'd be awesome for tryptych paintings 🖼 Now I just have to think what to paint 🎨 😆

I had a really fun game battling mutated spider haggis and mechanical grouse yesterday, which very much lifted my spirits from the difficult place I've been in recently.

Today, 15 years ago, was the worst day of my life at the time. One of the two worst, if I include my dog's passing 5 years later. It wasn't so much the gun point deportation, though that was traumatic, but the overall sense of grief at the loss of my then-wife, my connections, and life as I knew it.

My local art group convinced me to finish this monstrosity. It was torture, painting on kitchen roll masquerading as art paper. But I have bought some watercolour ground to make use of the rest of this abominable pad and invested in an Arches hot pressed block of watercolour paper for the future.
