Apropos of the current weather, William Kurelek was a Ukrainian-Canadian painter, born on the prairie, who settled in the Toronto neigbourhood where I grew up. I've long been a fan of this pair of paintings of the view from his porch because it reminds me of my childhood winters 6 streets over.

Another living Japanese artist #EmikoAida. Born in Japan in 1957, she earned a BA and an MA from the Tokyo University of the Arts, she went on to earn another MA at the Royal College of Art in the UK where she continues to live in London and is a Member of Royal Society of Painters-Printmakers.
