Rereading GREAT EXPECTATIONS and I'd forgotten how funny it is! Yes, there's plenty of gothic weirdness—and, of course, those indelible characters—but there's also laugh out loud humor. Not my favorite Dickens—that would be DAVID COPPERFIELD—but a truly great novel.
