Mark my words: With the success of SINNERS you will see the greenlight of a Southern Gothic horror project that at the very least will have a trailer backed up by Ethel Cain's music within the next few years. Cannot begin to express how much of a good idea this is. Do it.

'Family Tree' hits like a fucking truck and I don't why.

A *disgusting* amount of Ethel Cain is being listened to at full volume while Suus is away.

Suus is on a short hiking trip this weekend with Mac ✅ Sweatpants on ✅ A litany of snacks procured ✅ The sun is blocked ✅ Caught up on ANDOR S2 (incredible show, that heist was nail-biting, Gilroy and co are *crushing it*) ✅ We do lil gaming and some movies ✅

An honest, loving relationship navigating the amped up lies, lives, and dangers through the prism of espionage cat-and-mouse. Chic, funny, and sexy. Incredible dichotomy and execution. One of my favorites this year.

Suus has a BLACK BAG and I have some Soda-Bergh. Ha. Ha. Ha. Anyways, we are seated.

Help a brotha out with an answer.

THUNDERBOLTS*?! In this economy?! I think not. But BLACK BAG releases theatrically today. Now that's a Friday date night movie.

Sinners is a horror film in which almost all of the key events are driven by the constraints of the Jim Crow economy (spoilery) www.theatlantic.com/culture/arch...

HOLY NIGHT: DEMON HUNTERS Review: Hell Has A Face, And Don Lee Will Punch It! The movie opens this Friday from Capelight Pictures Int'l in the U.S.!

Eventually the entire creative side of the world will be on Patreon fighting for the same 10 bucks the 1% make themselves feel good about donating "to the arts."

God knows I hate doing these, but I have no other option. After being out of work for 5 months, I accepted a job offer that was eliminated 2 weeks in. Unfortunately the part-time hours I’ve picked up were not enough to cover my full rent this month. Please reshare if you can. gofund.me/be32e839

What irks me so deeply about this situation is that The Wrap expose did *nothing*. It was known that Polygon was going to sell to Valnet probably prior to the publishing of it and what they were capable of, yet the sale still went through. And for what? For why?

Along with just about everyone else at Polygon, I am now out of a job, ending over a decade at Vox Media for me. Working at Polygon was a wonderful experience, and I'm proud of the work we did there. I will be looking for work, as well as starting my own project(s) on the side. Stay tuned!

Just hearing about Polygon and I'm disgusted. Regardless of the fact of my recent work there, @petevolk.bsky.social helped shape that piece into something special & I wouldn't have gotten there without his help & faith in me. So many others like him lost their jobs today and need your help.

If you dug Sinners - and you should have - let me make a strong recommendation for Harlem Unbound, Chris Spivey's excellent Cthulhu sourcebook dealing with Lovecraftian horror during the Harlem Renaissance.

For the Tuesday Transgressors out there, #MakeMeWatch welcomes @odstspartan.bsky.social of @a4epodcast.bsky.social to go full spoilers on #Sinners, how it's in conversation with films like GANJA & HESS, and how big a nerd you need to be to say "Yautja." open.spotify.com/episode/0GIA...

Was a delight to get deep into the Sinners talk with both Brandons. Had a blast and I hope you do too.

When you get to our HAVOC talk, I want you to know that since yesterday the film remains 'Fine' (neither good or bad), but has risen in my estimation ever so slightly. It's worth the watch, and a recommendation from The Boys all around. On to KILLER OF KILLERS.

This list? The goods. Exceptional taste. Exquisite even.

Last thing I’m going to say about “Havoc” for now— It’s ironic that the biggest homage to John Woo with it is the fact that Evans also made a wildly-divisive, hyper-violent, Christmas-set action film with a scuzzy, barely-likable lead character. Unintentionally, following Woo’s take on the same.

I love that this list shouts out 3 of my all time favorite (non-John Woo) HK flicks. I won’t spoil them all but it’s not every day you see a mainstream website hyping up the truly mean HK noir “The Longest Nite.” —A film that features an evil Tony Leung bludgeoning someone with a full ketchup bottle

More I think about it, the more I really dig that cabin fight, especially the one on one with Hardy and Michelle Waterson. Two very different class of fighters with Hardy winning really by the skin of his teeth despite getting beat to Hell. Good character beats in that showdown.

THE ACCOUNTANT 2 drops today! Here's my @cinapse.bsky.social review of the film out of #SXSW. I liked it! But it's also kind of a rom com? YMMV. cinapse.co/2025/03/sxsw...

“Gareth Evans didn’t innovate w/ ‘Havoc!’ He should be pushing action forward like he did with ‘The Raid!’” My brother in Christ, what? Why are we holding Evans to a standard we hold no other action filmmaker to? What happened to liking a filmmaker’s style (good & bad) & enjoying a film for that?

HAVOC is fine. Love the digital look of it and the generic Crime City that bridges the gap between video game and novel. Bodies are disintegrated by bullets into mists of red viscera. But there's not much meat on the bones to a rather okay throwback to the heroic bloodshed genre.

It's once again the Dutch Holiday known as Koningsdag (King's Day). A day of street long sales of trinkets, cheap food, and the garish color orange is worn by all (except me). But it's also Alien Day AKA The better "holiday". Don't wear orange, save yourself.

Great friend Max debuting for Polygon with a great piece. Please check this out!!

Fellow traveler @odstspartan.bsky.social brings The Truth in his @polygon.com piece about #Sinners in the canon of Black Vampire Cinema. A real treat. www.polygon.com/horror/56291...

Just wanna say thank you so far for the glowing responses to the article. It means a great deal to me. I can't say it'll be a consistent thing, as like so many of you I'm trying to navigate the world and whatever sort of "career" lies ahead of me, but I'm hopeful to do more. 🧵

WHO DID THIS?

My friend @odstspartan.bsky.social put together a terrific article highlighting some other great black vampire films that pair beautifully with SINNERS.

With my article at Polygon now live, here's another opportunity to hear me gush on SINNERS with my friends over at The Waffle Press. So much to say, so little time. But the movie is tremendous.

Max rules and it rules to see him get the chance to write about a movie that rules
