Wait, I forgot. Managed to squeeze in Ichikei no Karasu (2021) and a rewatch of Nodame Cantabile (2006) as well (!!) Both shows were a good time. I'm kind of interested in watching Hero (the 2000 one) now.

Currently watching: Hot Spot (2025) ep 4 Mikami-Sensei (2025) ep 4 Kujaku no Dance (2025) ep 5 Shiranakute Ii Koto (2020) ep 4 Slightly behind on the new shows, it's just been that kinda month. I did finish Nemureru Mori (1998) in the meantime though.

“Forget the problematic doping decisions, the crazy new balls, the abusers, and all the rest. You know what change tennis needs? The addition of another Grand Slam.” said no #tennis fan ever

I see people saying this sort of thing often, and quite frankly it makes me sad. The truth is, more people are making good adventure games now than were ever made during the “golden age” of the 90s. For example: 🧵

My article on Mock Foreigner speech is now available open access at Language and Communication! In it, I build on the mock language framework to explain what's up with the linguistic features used to invoke (white) foreignness in a Japanese media context. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Hate that it has come to this, but it's time to consider PubMed vulnerable to enshittification. My latest post @plos.org discusses the lines we need to fight to hold – and alternatives we can rely on internationally: absolutelymaybe.plos.org/2025/02/14/w... #medlibs

Ooh all episodes of Kamen Rider Build will be available on Toei's official youtube.

Currently watching: Hot Spot (2025) ep 3 Mikami-sensei (2025) ep 2 Kujaku no Dance (2025) ep 1 Somehow I'm watching new releases again. Gokusen S2 seems to be on hold, though I fully intend to get back to it at some point.

Hotspot ep 1: Here for Bakarhythm's script. The dialog and narration are fun. For me, it's perhaps not as strong an episode as the first of Brush Up Life in terms of getting its hooks in, but don't get me wrong, I'm definitely going to continue.

The ripple effects of the Nakai Masahiro & FujiTV incident continue to spread far and wide...even at the expense of innocent parties: - More than 50 companies have either pulled out their ads running on FujiTV or in the midst of planning to do so as reported on 20 Jan 2025.

Also checked out episode 1 of Hotspot and part of episode 1 of Mikami-sensei from the 2025 winter season. More thoughts when I finish the latter.

Completed Shinjuku Yasen Byoin. 2024 kept making me watch medical shows, even if I swear I don't seek them out. This wasn't heavy on medical content though. The larger-than-life characters took center stage, played by an excellent cast who was clearly having fun.

ok this shirt is pretty epic

Currently watching: Shinjuku Yasen Byoin (2024) ep 8 29-sai no Christmas (1994) ep 1 Gokusen S2 Very slow progress this week as everything ratcheted up to 100 very quickly now that the new year is upon us. I might put 29-sai on hold as my listening alone isn't quite up to the task :(

Getting a lot of "I tried that, but Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time and Kingkiller ruined me!" replies. Pull up a chair and I'll explain how publishing works.

#Shogun is winning so many #GoldenGlobes tonight and I am here for it! FANTASTIC SHOW! They deserve all the wins ❤️

Start out in a genre you already love. Don’t try and just watch the first Kdrama that comes across you screen. If you know you don’t like the crime genre, don’t start a crime Kdrama.

I watched Grand Maison Tokyo SP and had a good time. It managed to live up to the main series and provide setup for the movie. There was a lot of scene-setting in the first hour. At one point I was seriously wondering where it was going, but it paid off handsomely in the second half.

I feel like in the last few weeks I have seen so many people say stuff like this. I think there is a consumer awakening to how bad things have got. We're at a breaking point. www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgiv...

I recently tried to uninstall some Ubisoft titles and had to first update the client, change my password, and then log in before finally being allowed to delete the files from my PC.

Binged the rest of Love Generation (1997) over New Year's. I know general opinion on this one is somewhat mixed. I fall squarely in the "loved it" segment. The four main cast members played their roles very well, even if/especially when their characters sometimes did awful things.

Day 31 #EYDC2024 Q: Favorite drama of 2024. A: Unmet. Welp, and that just about completes the challenge! It was fun! Wishing everyone an awesome 2025!

Day 30 #EYDC2024 Q: Was 2024 a good drama year for you? A: Yes. Compared to the last couple of years, I watched fewer seasonals and more shows from previous years, really enjoying many of them. It was also a good year in terms of more Jdramas finding their way onto official streaming platforms.

A student somehow accidentally emailed the entire NYU faculty and the reply-all carnage is like a freeway pile-up

Completed the Gokusen S1 SP, and with that, season 1. The series definitely lives up to its reputation as a classic. I really love the premise, which differentiates this from other teacher dramas (maybe not my most favorite genre) and is a source of comedy in itself.

Day 29 #EYDC2024 Q: A 2025 drama that you're excited for. A: Going to say Berabo because I haven't looked up anything else yet 🫠
