In which @jonnelledge.bsky.social hits the nail on the head. The people who read newspapers are generally the over-65s, the broadcasters and the political class. There’s a line that travels directly from the Mail, Sun and Telegraph through the BBC, ITN and Sky to Westminster. It is entirely ruinous.

Can’t wait for this. @jessearmstrong.bsky.social is a genius & it’s thrilling to see this subject *finally* hit our screens

BlueSky CEO Jay Graber says she’s not just building the next Twitter. Bluesky is for everyone—and it could revolutionize how people communicate online www.wired.com/story/big-in...

The irony of prisons policy is that so many in politics and media are prisoners of "tough on crime" rhetoric, and they cannot get released.

Quite possibly the first time the UK government has openly acknowledged the factual truth that Brexit has impacted trade with the EU. Better late than never, I suppose.

Brexiters in a nutshell. youtu.be/rl7-xlxNjhg

The madcap saga of horror and despair continues

Coverage of idiots claiming ‘betrayal’ or ‘surrender’ isn’t just bad journalism, it’s a dereliction of our duty to explain things. I’d actually forgotten just how bad it got but here we are, straight back to treating liars & spivs like authorities of equal weight to experts & honest brokers.

It’s precisely because Brexiters howl about betraying fish and talk shit about sovereignty/immigration *and our media amplifies their nonsense*, that govt is trapped by fear, unable to freely negotiate in our best interests in case Farage/Daily Mail have a meltdown. Beyond time for the goddam truth.

A reminder that more people are employed in the yoga industry than there are registered fishers working in the UK.

Your eternal reminder that Nigel Farage turned up to just one of 42 meetings when he was a member of the European Parliament fisheries committee

If you promised Brexit would be sorted in a day, we’d pay no divorce bill, it would make us global & grow our economy, the NHS would be fixed, it wouldn’t affect Northern Ireland, farming, fishing, travel, exports & imports - but you delivered the opposite, YOU are the one that betrayed Brexit.

Farage cries betrayal over access to fish stocks. But NEVER FORGET he stood down hundreds of Brexit Party PPCs to help Johnson win big in 2019 and it was Johnson who negotiated the access. There's no change to access, just an extension on existing deal for 12 years. If it's on anyone, it's Farage

The BSL during Finland was sensational #Eurovision

Jesus Christ Finland. 😂😂😂😂

Convenient of the UK to name their song to match their inevitable place in the table. Awful.

How hard would it be to draw Hitler moustaches on all Fanta Fuhrer’s big posters of himself he’s hanging up everywhere?

In short, Starmer has taken a massive hit among Labour voters, for no gain elsewhere, while boosting Farage's popularity, including doubling his ceiling among Labour voters. I.e., the political scientists were right, Morgan McSweeney was horrendously wrong.

What the FUCK???!!!!!

All the fab things lovely people - come in and have a look!

I'm not saying the Conservative party has lost touch with modern Britain, but they've just sent out a press release complaining about Keir Starmer failing to fly the flag of a county that no longer exists, in honour of a 200-year old battle that nobody remembers

🚨NEW SHOW This week it’s Naomi, Alex and Kenny! We discuss the appalling rhetoric around immigration and set out everything we think we know about what’s actually happening at the big 🇬🇧🇪🇺 summit on Monday. 💚 open.spotify.com/episode/6NvN... 🍏 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/q...

Sometimes when everyone’s being hysterical over not a lot you need to look at the stories getting no visibility. The Covid Inquiry yesterday declared 180,000 Brits died because Johnson and Hancock ignored expert advice. 180,000 people.

I’ve just spent the best part of a week in Iceland. A country that is comfortable with its strong socialist identity and embraces immigration. It is thriving, it is beautiful and it is kind. After the news today I just look at the UK and think what a fucked up place this is. Embarrassing.

My letter to the Prime Minister. #immigration

Labour has a whopping great majority and four years left to turn this country around. They should be setting the agenda, not chasing about trying to placate voters of a party with five MPs who will never vote for them anyway. It's not only disappointing... it's embarrassing

The Greens now have nearly 200 more councillors than Reform. This is not something you'd be likely to guess from all the copiously salivating media coverage of Farage & his crew of billionaire-backed far-right chancers.

Latest newsletter is now out. "The UK Labour Government is different from the Tory one that went before. "But they are different from the Conservatives in the same way that a blue Vauxhall Corsa is different from a red Fiat Punto." willhaywardwales.substack.com/p/one-year-t...

Fourteen

An absolute masterclass in how the UK media platforms and normalises far right politics. This is how Farage wins.

You'd think from UK news coverage that Reform now has more councillors than any other party or was at least now dominant in England. Here is the result of their breakthrough night: Lab: 6,136 Con: 4,445 Lib: 3,188 Green: 895 Ref: 777 SNP: 418 PC: 201 (Stats: Open Council Data UK.)

'Don't you dare try to invest in our area or create jobs'. Just imagine this lot in charge of the country

Hey British media, It’s no surprise that if you give Farage the run of the place, he’ll start winning. Time to do your actual jobs and start interrogating him on his Brexit shitshow, his funding, his Trumpiness, his idiotic manifesto, his real plans for the NHS… instead of drumrolling him into No.10
