Surely this new video won't make me seem like a crank. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEJp...

I get I'm posting about this a lot, but my god-- *Gestures at the World*

Two Canadian premiers are in the US meeting state governors today. From media statements made by the governors, I do not think that Americans understand the extent to which "joking" about Canada being made a state is *not playing well* up here. Cut it out, because we are not taking it as a joke.

Report: CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! CANADA!

LETS FUCKING GOOOOO

The singer of Canada‘s national anthem tonight switched the lyrics. “A representative confirmed in an email to CBC News that the switch was intentional in response to the annexation rhetoric coming from the U.S.” www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The Canada/US hockey game is starting. Sportsnet is playing The Hip as the music for the intro package. Saying a lot without saying it.

Slava Ukraini.

Quentin Tarantino’s Toy Story.

I really wish Americans would stop treating the continued existence of Canada as the sort of thing they can do amusing thought experiments about.

Canadians have been booing the US national anthem to assert some control in the face of the most powerful nation in history threatening annexation, and to pierce the self-absorbed American media bubble. Americans booed our anthem because we were mean to their special song. Stay classy, Yanks.

Idle thought - has there been a shift in how Americans refer to their country over the past 25 years or so? From "The United States" to "America"? Seems that way from this side of the border. Wonder why?

You know, it is remarkably difficult to find a good source for new Canadian music releases.

Okay, so at the request of the lovely @trance.bsky.social , I'm going to tell a story about what happens when a shitty person is "just joking", and then discovers there are consequences. AKA That Time Kat Started An Antifascist Hallway Riot In The Third Grade. Grab your beverage of choice.

...oh, they're gonna tear that arena apart.

Oh, geez, I missed the opening of the game. Going back to watch it during intermission. The Prime Minister's in the crowd.

"Visit the USA" tourism ads on Canadian TV during this hockey game are a *bold* fucking move.

I don't care about hockey, but Canada damn well better win this game.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

I think every designer should write a love letter to a font at least once in their lifetime. This is mine: A 150-year-old font you have likely never heard of, and one you probably saw earlier today. aresluna.org/the-hardest-...

Nation being threatened with annexation reminded to be polite to would-be conqueror's special song (Patreon Exclusive)

I’m going to suggest that Americans look to quality news sources from abroad to include in their media diets, to understand what is going on in the US right now. You often get a better view of something from the outside. The CBC and the Globe and Mail are good starts.
