If Trump and the Republicans get away with this, the Supreme Court will have given them unlimited power to shred the constitution in any way they please, rather than continuing to shred the constitution in the specific way the SCOTUS wants. It's a scummy but real distinction that'd end rule of law.

Sometimes I still think about an instruction I got from a magazine editor when I was writing about an actress: "Isn't she supposed to be crazy? Get into that." The actress was not at all crazy, but the "supposed to be" stuck with me, as did the editor's disappointment that I hadn't gotten into that.
