That's easy. P.T. Barnum purportedly said, "There's a sucker born every minute". No proof he said it, but the trope rings true. In this case, a political grifter's reading of the U.S. electorate. Where it gets tricky is that some see drumpf as the sucker, and know just how to play him. Quel dommage.

...and let's just take a moment to analyze that photo.

The loudest voices rarely represent the majority. They're usually speaking for the extremes. You won't understand the views of a group until you've invited the quieter voices into the discussion. Don't mistake silence for disengagement. It's often a sign of deep reflection.

You have to love the ingenuity. Thanks to the nonpartisan hens who provided the prize. They just want to live their lives and do their jobs.

Each week, The Contrarian selects an "Undaunted" individual working to defend democracy This week's spotlight: Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear At a time when Dems need strong & effective voices to reach Americans, Beshear provides a powerful example of successful governance & strategic rhetoric.

We don't have to look far for something to inflame us so I sought and found this. “A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones.” – Nelson Mandela Fresh oxygen for the fire within. That fire which moves us to action. Keeps us going. Tend your own well.

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.

Let's not forget Brett Kavanaugh, testifying to his character at his nomination hearing for the U.S. Supreme Court, "Yes, we drank beer. My friends and I. Boys and girls. Yes, we drank beer. I liked beer. Still like beer. We drank beer." Okay, we get it. And he got it. Christine Blasey Ford ignored.

Good speech by Pritzker who is stepping up in this moment.

Make sure you are not holding a hot beverage when you check this out.

Downplaying your achievements is not the antidote to appearing arrogant. Humility is acknowledging your weaknesses, not denying your strengths. Generosity is elevating others, not diminishing yourself. Owning your success doesn't make you a narcissist—it makes you a role model.

Ah, yes, and we're subsidizing all of this.

I just love this. We heard about it during his first occupation but tracking and assigning numbers a.k.a. cost to his preoccupation is both frustrating and delicious. The profile image: perfection.

Just discovered Alice Marwick. (Yes, as if she's just been waiting for me to find her.) Great interview on Story in the Public Square (Pell Center) ranging from disinformation to mainstream media relevance, to news deserts to AI. My take-away: Buckle up. @alicetiara.bsky.social

THE RESIST LIST IS HERE. Proud my team just started this @resistlist.bsky.social, which will list actions that happened and that are slated to happen.

I said that stupidity is contagious, at the start of what became the Covid pandemic. I believed it then...more so now. I also agree that "courage is contagious". We all can be spreaders.

Give him a Sharpie and a camera, and he'll sign anything. Behind closed doors, he'll agree to anything. In front of a mic, he'll (nonsensically) say anything. All in all, he stands for nothing...firmly. Nothing and no one is safe. What, you need me to say his name?

Let's all remember what drumpf said January 6, 2021, "I don't effing care.... They're not here to hurt me." Let's all just chill and enjoy this extended musk and Project 2025 love fest, right? Correct answer: No way.

This is beyond infuriating.

I have a bowl filled with small cards, each with a single word. I pull one very morning. Just one. Today's: Freedom. I'm happy to share.

About drumpf's executive order requiring passports to reflect gender assigned at birth. Let's take a step back. Does his or elon's passport designate either as human at birth? Given their willful disregard for residents', citizens' and human rights, I'd say, we should start there.

Presidents' Day. I've had my differences with some presidents during my lifetime, but today is to honor them as well. Notably minus 45, 47 and musk, of course. Now, as I was saying, on this day....

The Art of the Deal Chapter One: Here, go ahead, you can have it. Epilogue: What?! You expected more? That's it.

Parallels between drumpf's bilateral "deal" with the Taliban (by-passing the Afghanistan government) -- returning the country to a draconian state and women and girls to medieval conditions -- and him trying to do it again with Russia minus Ukraine? Claiming credit, never blame...either way.

🤔

This helps you understand why at Bolts we created a resource called "Who Runs Our Elections," which shows you the local & state offices that are responsible for all this in each & every state: boltsmag.org/whats-on-the... It is bafflingly decentralized... but you don't have to be baffled anymore!

Debating reactionaries is *never* a good idea You might win on 'facts', but you'll always lose politically: they are not arguing in good faith, they want their ideas to become seen as acceptable in public discourse And by debating them, you're giving them what they want It really is that simple
