My absolute favorite thing about SIM will always be what Matt does with his fleeting moment of restored vision. Saying this here b/c I was reminded of it and my wife is very tired of me telling her about it.

I am so glad Avengers Academy is getting a physical release, because today's issue reminded me of how much I love it.

Now THIS is news www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

"But why," I hear you ask me, "if you invariably loathe the main couple in Marion Chesney's Regencies, do you keep reading them? Even the ones you read when they first came out?" Because this one has a serial-killer grandma, and that's pretty typical. I don't like them as romances, but they're fun.

I have to stop asking why people in the reading and writing hobby are opposed to reading &/or writing. I have listened to enough ttrpg podcasts to know that people in the clicky rocks and maths hobby (for an audience!) can't or won't add two single-digit numbers.

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH** * Currently paused by Executive Order ** Grant reviews now all canceled www.kcur.org/news/2025-01...

That's it, this is the winner

With all the turmoil in the world right now we thought we would give you a bit of a bright spot. Agnes will now be taking submissions to her "Dear Aggie" column where she can give you all the life advice you ever needed from a beaver. www.thepipsqueakery.org/dearaggie

Can we add "death of the author" to the list of terms that need to be taken away from fandom due to repeated misuse? I may just be cranky because of all the time I spent in college slogging through Barthes.

Zero. Either I read it or I don't. And there's a lot I just don't read.

Art is what helps us through every other fucking thing.

I spent DECADES training myself not to be someone who fucking hates people. A couple of years of seeing *everyone* who is not personally endangered by covid stop taking a few tiny precautions, which would allow thousands of us to continue living like human beings, undid it all.

LITERALLY. I don't wanna watch a video to learn how to cook something just write the fucking recipe so I can read it!!!!

The "everyone who crochets is OBVIOUSLY doing amigurumi in Bernat Blanket" trend cannot end fast enough for me.

I have watched exactly one (1) inauguration in my life, and that was because we watched it at school. I am not changing that because some random dingus thinks I have to

You know how we keep having to argue with asshats that writing about "bad" things doesn't make you a bad person? Writing about "good" things doesn't make you a good person, either.

eyes roll so far back into my head that they pop out and roll under the couch just a psa buckaroos you can still be informed citizens without wolfing down non stop tromp for the next four years. its okay to participate in resistance in your own way that is not 'approved' by the lincoln project

If you’re ever wondering why wildfire smoke is so bad for you it’s because it includes things like “an entire bicycle”

Girl, byeeeee

If I unsubsidized from your newsletter months ago and you decided to send me email trying to get me to resubscribe (again, months later, not immediately after) this is going to make me have distinctly negative feelings about you, instead of just "that newsletter was not for me."

inside everyone, there are two princes. one has diamonds in his pocket and one wants to buy you rockets.

Blake's Seven. There are other shows I *could* do (classic Who, MUNCLE, Buffy+ Angel, Avengers Assemble) but that's the one I would choose to do. For a very long time, reciting episode titles in order was part of how I steadied myself mid-panic attack. And I can still recite big chunks from memory.

starting the year with one of my fav lines from Chandrashekhar Azad "what we are to face has been faced a thousand times and it has been defeated a thousand times before, we are merely those called to now carry on a tradition."

Given 45 years of not enjoying the F4, this still feels weird to say, but Ryan North's Fantastic 4 run is one of the 2 comics I look forward to eagerly every month (not the only ones I enjoy, but the ones that provoke "yay! It's here!"). It has made me love these characters. Y'all should read it.

It is totally unfair for me to dislike Marvel Rivals because there are dudes being super gross about Doreen. I don't have to be fair about a game I wasn't ever going to play, though.

Oh my God it has been so long since I gamed and I have missed it.

NOPE, we are not going to make UHC restricting ABA "therapy" a scandal. Autistic adults who survived it as children describe it as torture. It should be illegal and I don't give a fuck if they're only doing it to save money, it's an unambiguous good to reduce the hours we torture autistic kids.

Charles Dickens is a very great writer and/but I’m always delighted by how thoroughly you can tell he was a man trained to be paid by the word.

Time to do a re-listen of season 1!

BlueSky is trying to monetize so let's show them some numbers: Reskeet this if you refuse to pay for BlueSky+ until trust & safety decides to prioritize marginalized users. That's $96 / year of lost revenue for each reskeet...

I was already a fan of those microwavable weighted stuffed animals, and also the similar neck wraps, but I got slippers from the same company when doing my Christmas shopping. I just came in from the bitter cold, my feet frozen, and those things are BLISS.
